Technical and Research Director
Summary
Leads research and strategy for energy storage and battery lifecycle technologies, turning innovations into commercial products and industrial solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Research and Technology Strategy
Develop and implement the company’s research and technical strategy in energy storage, battery lifecycle management and circular economy technologies.
Identify emerging technologies, industry developments and research opportunities relevant to the company’s energy storage business.
Establish technical roadmaps and research priorities that support the company’s product development and international business objectives.
Provide technical advice to senior management on research direction, technology investment and industrialisation opportunities.
2. Energy Storage and Battery Technology Research
Lead research and development projects relating to energy storage technologies, lithium-ion batteries, retired battery utilisation, battery material regeneration and related technical solutions.
Evaluate the technical feasibility, engineering scalability and commercial potential of new technologies.
Conduct technical assessments and risk analyses for new research, engineering and industrialisation projects.
Support the development of innovative solutions for battery lifecycle management, including battery recovery, recycling, reuse and material regeneration.
3. Technology Commercialisation and Industrialisation
Lead the conversion of research outcomes and laboratory innovations into scalable engineering and commercial applications.
Develop industrialisation plans, technical implementation frameworks and commercialisation strategies for new technologies.
Coordinate pilot projects, technical validation, process optimisation and engineering scale-up activities.
Assess project economics, technical risks, operational requirements and potential market applications.
Work with internal and external stakeholders to accelerate the commercial deployment of research and technology outcomes.
4. Technical Project Management
Oversee the full lifecycle of technical and research projects, including concept development, feasibility studies, technical design, implementation, validation and commercial delivery.
Establish project milestones, technical specifications, budgets and risk-management frameworks.
Ensure that research and engineering projects are completed in accordance with agreed timelines, technical standards and business objectives.
Review technical documentation, research reports, project proposals, specifications and implementation plans.
5. Cross-functional and External Collaboration
Collaborate with the Group’s research and development, product, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain and commercial teams.
Coordinate technical cooperation with universities, research institutions, technology partners, suppliers and industry organisations.
Support the development of joint research programmes and industry-academic collaboration projects.
Represent the company in technical discussions, research partnerships, industry forums and professional conferences.
6. Technical Solutions and Commercial Support
Provide technical leadership for strategic projects, customer solutions and business development initiatives.
Support technical proposals, tenders, feasibility studies and commercial negotiations for complex projects.
Translate customer and market requirements into technically viable and commercially practical solutions.
Provide technical guidance during project implementation and address complex technical issues where required.
7. Intellectual Property and Research Outputs
Promote the development, protection and commercial application of intellectual property generated through research activities.
Lead or support patent applications, technical publications and research reports.
Establish internal processes for the identification, evaluation and management of intellectual property.
Ensure that research outputs support the company’s long-term technology and commercial objectives.
8. Team and Capability Development
Lead and develop technical and research personnel.
Establish research methodologies, technical standards and project-management practices.
Provide technical mentoring and professional development support to team members.
Build organisational capabilities in energy storage research, battery lifecycle technologies and technology commercialisation.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or above in Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Biotechnology, Energy Storage Technology or another relevant technical discipline.
At least 12 years of relevant experience in technical research, engineering, environmental technology, energy storage, battery technology or technology industrialisation.
At least 5 years of experience in a senior technical leadership, research management or technical director role.
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing technical strategies and research programmes.
Strong knowledge of energy storage technologies, lithium-ion batteries, battery lifecycle management, retired battery utilisation or material recovery.
Experience in assessing the feasibility, scalability, technical risks and economic viability of new technologies.
Proven experience in translating research outcomes into engineering or commercial applications.
Experience managing large-scale technical, engineering, EPC, BOT or industrialisation projects.
Strong project-management skills, including technical planning, risk management, stakeholder coordination and project delivery.
Experience in technical proposals, tenders, commercial negotiations and customer-facing technical discussions.
Experience working with research institutes, universities, technology partners or government-related organisations would be advantageous.
Experience in patents, technical publications or intellectual property management would be advantageous.
Strong analytical, communication, leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively in an international and multicultural environment.
Willingness to travel internationally when required.
