Please Read

This role requires previous experience within banking (preferred), financial services or insurance, with a solid understanding of pricing, financial calculations and modelling. Practical experience using AI tools in a working environment is also important.

This is a mid-level opportunity rather than a senior Business Analyst position. My client is ideally looking for someone with approximately 3–7 years of relevant Business Analyst experience who is keen to continue developing their skills and take on additional responsibility over time.

Candidates without the relevant industry experience, understanding of pricing, financial calculations and modelling, or those whose experience is predominantly at a senior level, are unlikely to be considered for this opportunity.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity for a technically minded and highly analytical Business Analyst to join a specialist financial technology business delivering innovative pricing and calculation solutions to banks across Australia and internationally.

Working across a SaaS platform used by Tier 1 and Tier 2 banking clients, you will play an important role in gathering and translating business requirements into technical solutions, particularly across banking products, pricing, financial calculations and modelling.

This is a highly client-facing position, working closely with external banking clients, internal stakeholders and a team of developers. You will be involved throughout the delivery lifecycle, from understanding client requirements and documenting user stories through to testing and ensuring the final solution meets expectations.

The business is also investing in AI and emerging technologies, providing an opportunity to bring your existing experience with tools such as Copilot and other AI platforms into the working environment. You will be encouraged to identify practical ways AI can improve requirements gathering, documentation, testing and the broader product offering.

Importantly, this is a position with genuine scope to develop beyond traditional Business Analysis. There is an opportunity to take ownership of individual projects and client relationships, with a pathway into a Product Owner position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage directly with banking clients and internal stakeholders to gather, analyse and document business and technical requirements.
  • Understand banking products, pricing structures, financial calculations and modelling requirements, translating these into clear and actionable user stories.
  • Work closely with developers and technical stakeholders to communicate requirements and support the successful delivery of new features and enhancements.
  • Develop testing criteria, conduct functional testing and quality assurance, and ensure delivered solutions meet the original business requirements.
  • Support the development and enhancement of financial pricing and calculation functionality across the SaaS platform.
  • Identify gaps, investigate issues and recommend improvements to existing processes, functionality and product capabilities.
  • Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to improve day-to-day processes, requirements documentation, testing and product development.
  • Contribute ideas for new AI-driven capabilities and opportunities to enhance the broader product offering.
  • Gradually take ownership of individual projects and client relationships, coordinating requirements and delivery through to completion.

Essential Experience

  • Approximately 3–7 years of relevant Business Analysis experience, ideally within banking (preferred), financial services, insurance or a related technology environment.
  • Solid understanding of banking products, pricing, financial calculations and modelling.
  • Experience engaging directly with clients and stakeholders to gather, analyse and document business requirements.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical documentation, user stories and testing criteria that developers can understand and implement.
  • Strong numerical and analytical capabilities, with excellent attention to detail when working with calculations, pricing and financial models.
  • Practical experience using AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot or similar platforms within a professional working environment.
  • Confident communication skills, with the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive and self-sufficient approach, with the ability to investigate problems, learn independently and take ownership of responsibilities.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience within a financial technology or SaaS business, particularly one providing solutions to banking clients.
  • Insurance industry experience, particularly involving pricing, calculations or financial modelling.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with financial models.
  • Ability to read and understand code, with exposure to languages such as Python, SQL, Java or C.
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence and Agile delivery environments.
  • Previous exposure to Product Ownership or responsibility for managing individual projects and client relationships.
  • Experience identifying opportunities to incorporate AI into business processes, products and technology solutions.
