Technical Consultant & Senior Systems Engineer | Cloud
Salary: $120,000 – $170,000 per year
About the Roles
My client has two positions available in their cloud team, based in either Hamilton or Tauranga: a Senior Technical Consultant to lead cloud engagements end to end, and a Senior Systems Engineer to implement and support the solutions they design. Both roles work across the same Microsoft cloud stack but differ in seniority and scope. If you're unsure which fits you best, apply and tell us where you think you sit.
Role 1 — Senior Technical Consultant | Cloud
You'll own cloud projects end to end — advising clients on strategy, architecting cloud, modern workplace, identity and security solutions, and leading implementation yourself. You'll facilitate workshops, translate business requirements into roadmaps and solution designs, develop architectures, business cases, SOWs and RFP responses, and provide technical leadership, quality assurance and escalated troubleshooting throughout delivery. You'll also establish architectural principles and governance frameworks, mentor engineers, and maintain accurate project and commercial documentation.
You'll bring 10+ years' ICT experience, proven success in solution architecture and consulting, two major certifications (Azure Solutions Architect, Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator, Cybersecurity Architect, Security Engineer or equivalent), one or more Microsoft cloud certifications, and strong customer engagement and technical writing skills.
Role 2 — Senior Systems Engineer | Cloud
You'll implement, support and optimise Microsoft cloud platforms across customer environments — designing and supporting Microsoft 365, Azure and associated services, delivering identity, security and modern workplace solutions, and implementing Entra ID, Intune and Defender. You'll deliver cloud migration and transformation projects, perform assessments and optimisation, implement backup and business continuity for cloud workloads, and provide Level 3 troubleshooting. You'll also maintain documentation, contribute to solution architecture and standards, and mentor team members.
You'll bring one major certification (Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, Microsoft 365 Administrator, Security Engineer or equivalent), one or more Microsoft cloud certifications, hands-on experience delivering medium to large-scale cloud and modern workplace projects, and confidence engaging with customers.
Technical Proficiency (Both Roles)
Both roles require proficiency across Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, the Microsoft Defender Suite, and Microsoft Copilot and AI-enabled workplace solutions. You'll also need experience with Identity and Access Management, Conditional Access and Zero Trust principles, cloud security, governance and compliance, cloud migration and transformation programmes, security architecture and threat detection, business continuity and recovery solutions, and PowerShell scripting and automation. Experience with application modernisation and Power Platform is beneficial. For the Consultant role specifically, my client is also looking for strong business and technical writing skills, expert use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and architecture design tools, and a proven ability to identify opportunities and communicate the value of modern cloud technologies.
