The Role and What It Can Do For Your Career

This is a Technical Data Architect position at the heart of the engineering function, reporting to the Data Director of Engineering. You will design and implement scalable, secure and future proof data architectures that support advanced analytics, business intelligence and enterprise data needs across cloud and hybrid environments. You will define data models, integration patterns and governance frameworks, and translate complex strategic objectives into robust technical solutions for banking and retail clients navigating significant transformation.

The career value here is the breadth and depth of the domain. You will be working across AWS and GCP, real time streaming with Kafka and Confluent, batch and stream processing with Spark and Flink, data governance frameworks including GDPR and HIPAA compliance, and multi cloud cost optimisation. That combination of enterprise scale, regulated domain experience and modern cloud data architecture is increasingly rare and extremely valuable. You will also be providing architectural leadership and mentorship to data engineering teams, which compounds your influence well beyond your own output.

What you will need:

  • Strong expertise in data modelling, database design and architecting conceptual, logical and physical models
  • Proven experience with SQL and NoSQL databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB and Bigtable
  • Hands on experience building ETL and ELT pipelines and optimising data transformations
  • Practical knowledge of AWS including Kinesis, S3 and Redshift, and GCP including Pub/Sub and BigQuery
  • Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka and Confluent, and real time processing engines including Spark and Flink
  • Knowledge of data governance tools and frameworks including Collibra, Apache Atlas, GDPR and HIPAA
  • Familiarity with encryption standards and key management solutions including AES-256, TLS, KMS and Vault
  • Strong understanding of performance optimisation techniques including indexing, partitioning, caching and query tuning
  • Experience working with multi cloud and hybrid cloud environments including cost optimisation
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems or a related field
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex architectures to both technical and non technical audiences

Nice to Have:

  • AWS Certified Data Analytics or Google Professional Data Engineer certification

Why You Should Apply Now

Technical Data Architect roles with this breadth of scope - enterprise architecture, real time streaming, governance frameworks, multi cloud environments and world class clients - are not common in Belfast. This is a company with genuine momentum, a strong benefits package and a data engineering challenge that will stretch and develop any senior architect.

Salary up to £80,000. Hybrid working from Belfast, three days per week in office.
