Technical Director - Architecture
A highly experienced and qualified Architect responsible for leading the delivery of architectural design and technical outputs across multiple projects. The role combines technical excellence, and project delivery accountability, ensuring high-quality, coordinated, and compliant design solutions aligned to UK building standards.
An Associate derives design strategy, BIM-led delivery, multidisciplinary coordination engaging with other stakeholders, and ensuring efficient project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design Delivery
- Strategic Leadership: Define and implement technical strategies for Architecture aligned with organizational goals.
- Project Oversight: Manage end-to-end technical delivery of Architectural projects, ensuring quality, timelines, and budget adherence.
- Innovation & Sustainability: Drive adoption of cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices in Architecture
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs and installations meet regulatory codes, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Team Development: Mentor and lead technical teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with other stakeholders, contractors, and clients to deliver integrated solutions.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout project lifecycles.
Project & Programme Management
- Collaborate with project leadership to define project scope, programme, deliverables, and resource requirements.
- Manage delivery across multiple projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Support development of the Project Execution Plan, including financial forecasting and resource planning.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, RIBA and UK regulations.
- Monitor health & safety risks and contribute to risk assessments.
- Provide coaching, and technical guidance to junior and senior team members.
- Drive a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Encourage open communication and early identification of design issues.
- Support staff development and training initiatives.
- Enhance team capability and maintain high technical competence standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified Architect (Chartered preferred).
- 20+ years experience in the architectural/construction industry.
- Proven experience managing large-scale, complex projects.
- Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and standards.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other BIM tools.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong expertise in construction methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical design delivery and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Experience delivering tender and construction stage packages.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Fluency in English (written and verbal).
