Lead the Delivery of Stormwater Infrastructure
Babbage is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Project Director to lead the delivery of our stormwater projects and help grow a strong pipeline of infrastructure work.

The Opportunity
This is more than a project management role. We’re looking for an experienced stormwater project leader who will be the senior point of accountability for our clients, own project outcomes and help grow our stormwater portfolio.

You’ll direct projects from concept through to construction, taking ownership of scope, programme, budget, risk, quality and profitability. You’ll work closely with our Technical Directors and Infrastructure Business Manager, build trusted relationships with councils, developers and contractors, and mentor the engineers on your project teams.

Whether you’re currently working in consulting, local government or the wider water sector, this role offers the opportunity to influence both major project outcomes and the direction of our growing Infrastructure business.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Direct the delivery of complex stormwater projects from feasibility through to construction
• Deliver stormwater networks, outfalls, inlet and outlet structures, energy dissipation structures, culverts and treatment devices
• Own project scope, programme, budget, risk and quality, making sure projects achieve their planned profit
• Prepare briefs, fee estimates and proposals, and lead tenders and client presentations
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams drawn from across Babbage, setting clear direction and priorities
• Oversee contract documentation, construction monitoring and contract administration (NZS 3910), acting as Engineer to Contract where required
• Provide project direction and review in collaboration with our Technical Directors
• Build trusted relationships with councils, water entities, developers and contractors
• Manage client expectations, variations and commercial negotiations
• Mentor and develop engineers, including their progress towards CPEng/CMEngNZ

What You’ll Bring

• A tertiary qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering
• 15+ years of water infrastructure experience, preferably within New Zealand
• CPEng/CMEngNZ status, or close to achieving it
• A proven track record of directing stormwater projects from concept to construction
• Experience with contract documentation and contract administration
• Solid technical knowledge of three waters systems, NZ Standards and council codes of practice
• Strong commercial acumen across fee estimating, financial management, risk and negotiation
• Established client relationships within the New Zealand water sector
• Familiarity with tools such as 12d Model, Civil 3D or InfoWorks ICM
• A passion for mentoring engineers and contributing to team success
