Technical Lead Data Engineer

Summary:

The Technical Lead Data Engineer plays a crucial role in guiding multiple engineering teams, ensuring that data engineering practices are effectively implemented while managing high-level technical decision-making within the Azure ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical authority for Data Engineers within a data team.
  • Conduct pull request validations, peer reviews, and ensure full compliance with data engineering standards.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to junior Data Engineers.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and maturity of data engineering practices within the organization.
  • Act as the single point of contact between Data Platform Architects and engineering teams.
  • Translate architectural guidelines into actionable technical instructions for engineering teams.
  • Recommend alternative technical solutions depending on the targeted Data Warehouse (DWH) layer (ingestion, transformation, consumption).
  • Participate in the definition, evolution, and continuous improvement of the data platform and data engineering standards.
  • Provide structured feedback from field experience to refine practices and tooling.
  • Contribute to performance optimization, data quality, and operational reliability.

Key Requirements:

  • Natural leadership and ability to guide multiple teams.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, adapted to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Technical expertise in designing, developing, and optimizing data pipelines within the Azure ecosystem.
  • Proficiency in Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Mapping Data Flow (MDF), Databricks, PySpark, and SQL.
  • Expertise in dimensional modeling (star schema, DWH concepts).

Nice to Have:

  • Experience using Power BI.
  • Experience with semantic data modeling.
