Introduction
We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead for Embedded Systems Software to lead the development and productization of advanced embedded virtualization and system software. In this role, you will provide day-to-day technical leadership to a team of embedded software engineers while remaining hands-on in the design, implementation, integration, and debugging of complex software solutions.
You will work closely with system and software architects, hardware and verification teams, product management, customers, and external development partners to translate requirements into robust, production-ready software. The role combines deep technical expertise with team leadership and ownership of engineering quality, predictable delivery, and successful customer outcomes.
Your Job
- Provide technical leadership for the development and productization of embedded virtualization and system software, guiding engineers from architecture and requirements through implementation, integration, validation, and release.
- Translate system architecture, product requirements, and customer needs into robust software designs, implementation plans, milestones, and acceptance criteria.
- Remain hands-on by contributing to critical features, prototypes, integration, debugging, code reviews, and the resolution of complex system-level issues.
- Develop and integrate low-level embedded software, including virtualization, RTOS integration, BSPs, device drivers, memory management, interrupt handling, multicore systems, and hardware/software interfaces.
- Drive engineering quality and disciplined development practices across architecture, coding, automated testing, CI/CD, configuration management, documentation, release readiness, and defect resolution.
- Lead system-level debugging, performance optimization, and root-cause analysis across embedded software, operating systems, firmware, and hardware.
- Identify technical and productization risks, drive mitigation plans, and communicate technical status, dependencies, and trade-offs to stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with architects, hardware and verification teams, product management, customers, and external development partners to ensure successful delivery.
- Mentor engineers through technical guidance, design and code reviews, knowledge sharing, and engineering best practices while fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support applicable Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Extensive professional experience developing complex embedded and/or systems software, with senior-level technical ownership of production-quality software.
- Proven experience technically leading software engineering teams, including mentoring engineers, coordinating technical activities, and driving execution while remaining hands-on.
- Strong C and/or C++ development experience for embedded, real-time, or resource-constrained systems.
- Strong knowledge of embedded systems fundamentals, including concurrency, synchronization, interrupts, memory management, MMU concepts, multicore systems, boot flows, and hardware/software interfaces.
- Experience with RTOS, hypervisor, virtualization, BSP, driver, and/or other low-level system software development.
- Proven experience productizing complex embedded software, including integration, verification, automated testing, quality, release, and lifecycle considerations.
- Strong system-level debugging and root-cause analysis capabilities using debuggers, traces, logs, profiling, and hardware-assisted debugging methods.
- Experience working directly with customers, translating technical requirements and issues into actionable engineering solutions, and communicating technical decisions and trade-offs.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering disciplines, customers, and external development partners.
- This is a hybrid position based in Eindhoven, with a minimum requirement of three days per week working from the Eindhoven office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing virtualization platforms, hypervisors, RTOS components, or comparable low-level system software.
- Deep understanding of embedded processor architectures, including exception levels, MMU/MPU, interrupt controllers, timers, cache coherency, and multicore operation.
- Experience developing software for safety-critical or high-reliability embedded systems, particularly in automotive, industrial, or comparable environments.
- Familiarity with functional safety concepts and standards such as ISO 26262, including requirements traceability, safety mechanisms, assumptions of use, and freedom from interference.
- Experience with structured software development and quality practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, static analysis, coding-rule compliance, configuration management, and release qualification.
- Experience coordinating technical development across distributed engineering teams and external development partners.
