Summary
Internal-only role for existing BAE Systems employees: act as the technical pre-sales interface between defence customers and UK-based engineering teams, shaping opportunities, building propositions and solutions, and supporting defence business growth. Requires a technical background, strong stakeholder engagement, commercial and defence procurement awareness, plus frequent international travel.

Technical Pre-Sales Engineer
The Business Development function within Digital Intelligence is pleased to announce this additional headcount for an individual with a depth of technical knowledge and experience in digital Technology and Engineering space and the ability to liaise effectively with external customers in determining requirements and fulfilling their needs.
The Technical Pre-Sales Engineer will directly support supporting the growth of BAE Systems Digital Intelligence's Defence business across domestic and international markets. Working within the Business Development function, the role acts as a primary technical interface between regional customers and UK-based capability teams, ensuring customer requirements are understood, opportunities are effectively shaped, and solutions are aligned to operational needs.
The role combines technical expertise, customer engagement, market insight, and commercial awareness to support business development campaigns, proposition development, and strategic growth initiatives across key defence markets.

Your main responsibilities as Technical Pre-Sales Lead will involve\:
● Develop and maintain strong technical relationships with defence customers, government stakeholders, and industry partners.
● Identify, qualify, and shape new business opportunities aligned to regional customer priorities and capability requirements.
● Lead technical pre-sales activities across the opportunity lifecycle, including customer engagement, opportunity shaping, solution development, and capture support.
● Act as the key link between customers and UK-based engineers, solution architects, and technical specialists.
● Support the development of customer-focused propositions, demonstrations, and technical responses.
● Contribute to regional business development strategies, campaigns, and growth plans.
● Represent BAE Systems Digital Intelligence at customer meetings, industry events, conferences, and exhibitions.
● Provide market and customer insight to influence capability development, investment decisions, and proposition evolution.
● Collaborate across Business Development, Engineering, Delivery, Commercial, and partner organisations to support opportunity capture and growth.
Your skills and qualifications\:
● Technical background gained through engineering, programme delivery, consultancy, business development, pre-sales, or related roles.
● Ability to engage credibly with customers, operators, engineers, and senior stakeholders.
● Strong stakeholder management, networking, and relationship-building skills.
● Understanding of systems engineering and capability development lifecycles.
● Commercial awareness and the ability to translate customer challenges into business opportunities.
● Understanding of defence acquisition and procurement processes.
● Degree level education in a STEM subject or the ability to demonstrate equivalent experience.
What we’re looking for in you\:
While the role has no direct reports, it requires strong leadership through influence. The successful candidate will coordinate and align stakeholders across Business Development, Engineering, Delivery, and partner organisations to support customer engagement, opportunity development, and business growth. The role may evolve to include mentoring or leadership responsibilities as the business expands.
