Technical Product Manager
Summary
Leads the strategy and development of web-based travel products for a global business travel platform, collaborating with engineering and business teams to deliver scalable digital experiences using Agile methods.
Amex GBT is a place where colleagues find inspiration in travel as a force for good and – through their work – can make an impact on our industry. We’re here to help our colleagues achieve success and offer an inclusive and collaborative culture where your voice is valued.
We are seeking an experienced Technical Product Manager to lead the strategy, development, and management of a portfolio of web-based products for American Express Global Business Travel (GBT). This role requires strong collaboration across engineering, invent, operations, and business collaborators to deliver scalable digital experiences that support clients, vendors, and internal business partners. The ideal candidate combines technical understanding with strong relationship management skills and experience working in Agile environments.
What You'll Do
As a Technical Product Manager on this team, your work will span the full product lifecycle. You may contribute to platform-wide roadmap planning, own discrete product areas, or lead specific initiatives — the shape of the role reflects the platform's scale and where you can add the most value.
Contribute to product strategy and planning, helping define priorities that balance platform health, client impact, and long-term capability growth.
Lead the delivery of product initiatives end-to-end — from discovery and requirements gathering through build, launch, and iteration.
Translate technical and business requirements into clear, actionable user stories and product specifications for engineering teams.
Manage product backlogs, sprint planning, and prioritization within an Agile/Scrum environment.
Partner closely with engineering, architecture, and operations teams to ensure solutions are performant, reliable, and built to grow.
Lead integration projects for new clients or vendors — from requirements and customization through to deployment — ensuring a seamless onboarding experience.
Work across both client-facing product initiatives and internal platform development, adapting your approach to the audience and context.
Maintain rigorous standards for data security, compliance, and platform governance in line with company policies.
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and operational support teams to drive efficient issue resolution and continuous alignment.
Identify and lead opportunities to automate, modernize, or streamline platform capabilities — including the thoughtful application of AI and emerging technologies.
Define, track, and report on product performance metrics and KPIs, using data to guide decisions and communicate progress.
Create and maintain comprehensive product documentation, process guides, and integration specifications.
Coordinate cross-functional initiatives across multiple teams, ensuring alignment with broader platform and business strategy.
What We're Looking For
Experience
5+ years of experience in technical product management, with a strong record of delivering results on large-scale, high-availability platforms.
Experience across one or more of the following domains: real-time transaction processing, data services and integrations, API management, or enterprise platform development.
3+ years of experience working in the business travel industry, with a solid understanding of travel processes and data.
A solid history of leading cross-functional teams and driving engagement across engineering, operations, and business stakeholders.
3+ years of client-facing or external partner engagement experience.
Hands-on experience in Agile/Scrum environments, including tools such as JIRA for backlog and sprint management.
Experience with product lifecycle management across both internal platform products and externally facing client solutions.
Skills & Capabilities
Comfortable operating in technical depth — you can discuss system architecture, integration patterns, and data flows with engineering teams and hold your own.
Strong ability to translate complex technical and business requirements into clear product specifications, and communicate them effectively to both engineering and non-technical audiences.
Confident working with APIs, data delivery methods (e.g., REST APIs, flat files, event streams, real-time feeds), and modern integration patterns.
Analytical mindset with the ability to interrogate large data sets and coordinate issue resolution across multiple teams and systems.
Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills at all organizational levels.
A genuine drive to innovate — you look for ways to automate legacy processes, apply new technologies, and improve user experience, not just maintain the status quo.
Clear, concise communication skills — written and verbal — with the ability to adapt your message for different audiences.
Experience defining and supervising product performance metrics and using data to guide decisions.
Ability to manage competing priorities, stay calm under pressure, and thrive in a fast-paced, ambitious environment.
