Emergent Software is looking for a Technical Product Owner (Data) with 5+ years of experience leading requirements gathering and delivery efforts for data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence projects. You will work closely with clients, data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to define priorities, manage backlogs, and deliver modern data solutions that drive measurable business value.
This 100% remote role is ideal for someone with strong communication skills, experience working on cloud-based data platforms, and a solid understanding of data warehousing, reporting, governance, and agile delivery practices.

Primary Duties
Partner with clients to establish product vision and backlog
Partner with clients to assist them in performing the Product Owner role
In depth requirements gathering and analysis.
Document requirements as Features and User Stories to share with team.
Work with your team and client to create a plan for delivering on project objectives and achieving business value.
Partner with technology teams to establish client technology roadmap
Collaborate heavily with technology experts (architects and engineers) to vet requirements for technical feasibility.
Speak with intelligence on technology topics to clients to establish trust and confidence.
Partner with delivery teams to execute on established plans
Communicate technical and business requirements to delivery team.
Collaborate with senior delivery team members to solve complex challenges.
Demonstrate strong understanding of custom software development concepts and best practices in all interactions.
Ensure projects stay on target by regularly communicating status, risks, and change as they occur.
Be a champion of the agile software development process
Work directly with clients to manage project delivery while encouraging and fostering an agile delivery method.
Apply agile concepts in real world settings, adapting principles to client’s level of agile sophistication and working to improve maturity over time.
Own backlog health and communicate deviation to expected value delivery proactively.
Act as a servant leader to your delivery team.
Required Qualifications
Product Ownership experience
5+ years of experience as a Product Owner or Business Analyst on complex data engineering projects.
Experience in delivering data engineering projects on modern cloud data platforms and familiarity with concepts around data warehousing, medallion architecture, Power BI, master data management, data governance, etc.
Experience in crafting cost estimates to deliver components or entire projects.
Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills are a must.
Experience operating as the liaison between agile development teams and users in defining requirements, performing business analysis, and driving delivery in the right direction.
Technology knowledge
Experience utilizing AI tools in product development, product delivery, or project management.
A solid understanding of how websites, web applications, APIs, databases, and the cloud function at a high level.
Strong technical background enabling you to provide credible leadership to development teams and accurately evaluate complex project risks and issues.
Experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach
Solid understanding of software development life cycle models including expert knowledge of Agile principles.
Experience with agile work organization tools (Azure DevOps, Jira, Trello, Basecamp, Rally).
A proven track record of successfully implementing custom web application projects using Agile methodologies.
Experience with Traditional Project Management concepts
Experience with scope, schedule, budget, and risk management
Must be viewed as a trusted source of truth by stakeholders through consistent, transparent, and confident communication.
Owns the narrative around project delivery, ensuring stakeholders are informed, aligned, and reassured throughout the lifecycle.
Occasional travel to client sites may be requested for activities such as annual planning meetings. Although travel is not expected to be frequent, the ability to accommodate occasional travel is required.
Nice to Have Experience
Strong preference towards candidates with experience delivering projects to client expectations, especially in a consulting capacity, software as a service environment, or delivering AI-accelerated (agentic) solutions.
Industry recognized Agile process certification (PMI-ACP, Scrum Alliance CSM or CSPO, Scrum.org PAL, SAFe, or equivalent)
Industry recognized Project management certification (PMP or equivalent)
Microsoft Azure technology certifications (AZ-900, DP-900, AI-900)
Experience on projects utilizing Microsoft stack technologies such as .NET, SQL Server, and Azure as well as JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, and Vue.js
