Technical Product Owner
Summary
Defines product vision, roadmap, and strategy while working hands-on with architects and engineers to ensure features are technically feasible and scalable. Manages the product backlog, collaborates cross-functionally with engineering, design, and QA teams, and applies Agile practices to deliver high-quality products.
Requirements
- Define product vision, roadmap, and take ownership of the product/project, ensuring thorough communication with stakeholders throughout.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to analyze needs, prioritize work, and align the roadmap to strategic goals.
- Work closely with Scrum and business teams to maintain and groom the product backlog based on business needs.
- Engage directly with the technical detail: feasibility, trade-offs, and constraints, while holding full business context.
- Stay current on trends and best practices in agile product management.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Product Strategy & Roadmap: Define and manage product vision, strategy, and roadmap with stakeholders, keeping alignment with business objectives and customer needs.
- Technical Leadership: Partner hands-on with architects and engineers. Understanding the system architecture deeply enough to guide technical decisions, pressure-test feasibility, and ensure features are scalable and maintainable, while translating between business intent and technical execution.
- Backlog Management: Own the product backlog and prioritize features, enhancements, and technical debt against business goals and timelines.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, design, and QA to ensure requirements are clearly communicated and delivered efficiently.
- Stakeholder Communication: Regularly engage stakeholders to gather feedback, manage expectations, and report on progress.
- Customer-Centric Focus: Collect customer feedback, analyze market trends, and make data-driven decisions to improve the product.
- Agile Delivery: Apply Agile practices (Scrum/Kanban) to manage development cycles, ensuring timely, high-quality releases.
- Quality Assurance: Work with QA to ensure the product meets high standards of quality and performance through thorough testing.
Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years as a Technical Product Owner (or equivalent) on technically complex products.
- Technical Depth: Able to get into the thick of the technology; comfortable discussing system architecture, APIs, cloud/infrastructure, and data with architects and developers, and using that understanding to shape product decisions. Prior hands-on or engineering-adjacent experience is a strong plus.
- Feasibility & Constraints: Understands the software development lifecycle well enough to reason about development constraints, integration points, and delivery risk.
- DevOps Awareness: Familiarity with modern DevOps and delivery practices (CI/CD, deployment, monitoring) are good to have.
- Agile Knowledge: Strong experience working in Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
- Product Management: Skilled at defining roadmaps, managing backlogs, and writing clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Stakeholder Management: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to manage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Problem Solving: Able to prioritise and make quick, informed decisions balancing technical feasibility with business impact.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
