Technical Project Manager
Description
Salary: $150,000 – $155,000 per year
Technical Project Manager
Sydney, NSW | Permanent
Full-Time Salary: $150,000 – $155,000 + Superannuation
About the role
Our client is a well-established Sydney-based managed services provider (MSP) that partners with organisations to deliver reliable, secure and well-run technology. They are a close-knit team where people have real ownership of their work, direct access to leadership and the chance to shape how the business grows.
The Role
Our client is looking for an experienced Technical Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex technology projects for their customers. This is a hands-on, client-facing role for someone who is genuinely technical, commercially aware and confident working with senior stakeholders.
You will lead delivery for a major enterprise client in the financial services sector, working directly with senior leaders including C-level executives, while also running a portfolio of smaller projects for other clients at the same time. Because the business is a smaller MSP, the role is varied: when project volumes ease, you will contribute across the business, including pre-sales, scoping and professional services.
Key Responsibilities
Own end-to-end delivery of technical projects, from scoping and planning through to go-live and handover
Act as the primary delivery lead for the business’s largest enterprise client, building trusted relationships with senior and executive stakeholders
Manage multiple smaller client projects concurrently, balancing priorities, resources and timelines
Translate business requirements into clear technical project plans, with defined scope, milestones, risks and dependencies
Coordinate engineers, vendors and client teams to keep delivery on track, on budget and to a high standard
Provide clear, confident reporting and updates to clients and internal leadership, including escalating risks early
Support pre-sales activity: join client discovery conversations, help scope solutions, and contribute to proposals, estimates and statements of work
Help shape and mature the project delivery and professional services practice, including templates, processes and governance
Step into other areas of the business as needed when project demand fluctuates
About You
Essential
Proven experience as a Technical Project Manager, ideally within an MSP, IT services or professional services environment
Demonstrated experience managing projects for large or enterprise clients, with confidence engaging at C-level
A solid technical grounding (for example infrastructure, cloud, Microsoft 365, networking, security or migrations) so you can credibly challenge, scope and guide technical work
Ability to juggle one large, high-profile engagement alongside several smaller projects without dropping the ball
Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
Commercial awareness, including managing scope, budgets and change control
A flexible, “roll your sleeves up” attitude suited to a smaller business
Highly regarded
Pre-sales or solution consulting experience, or a background that moved from pre-sales into project management
Experience running or leading a professional services function within a small to mid-sized MSP
Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, Agile or similar)
Experience in financial services or other regulated industries
Familiarity with ITIL or service management practices
