Technical Sales Engineer

Join ConMet's Wheel Ends Group and our rapidly growing aftermarket business unit as an Applications Engineer in Vancouver, WA. In this role, you'll become a trusted technical partner—both to our customers and across ConMet—helping manage our current aftermarket product portfolio while identifying, developing, and launching new additions to it. This customer-facing position calls on your engineering expertise and project leadership skills to build lasting relationships, drive new opportunities, and support world-class operations.

This is an onsite (not hybrid or remote) office job working with our global wheel end Applications Engineering team in Vancouver, Washington. Non-local candidates must be open to relocation (relocation assistance available).

Key Duties

  • Acts as a customer engineering liaison, building and maintaining a strong cross-functional customer network
  • Collaborates with Key Account Managers and Sales Directors as part of the Account Team
  • Identifies new business opportunities and develop business justifications
  • Provides guidance for technical/product strategies and manages the execution of those strategies based on voice of customer feedback (VOC) and ConMet technical/product strategic initiatives
  • Manages customer product portfolio
  • Ensures customer quality standards are met

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates decision making and/or selection of products, components, or specific product development projects
  • Support or lead development projects as required
  • Support investigations to field performance as required, leading the customer response and contributing to corrective action plans for key engineering issues
  • Drives for continuous improvement of ConMet product development processes and ConMet products

Qualifications

Required Experience/Traits:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum two years’ experience in relevant field
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Detail-oriented, driven, and proactive in seeking new opportunities
  • Strategic Decision-Making: Identify opportunities, assess risks, and drive growth and profitability
  • Communication Skills: Translate complex technical concepts into compelling value propositions for engineers and executives
  • Business Acumen: Ability to understand and create financial models to accompany technical proposals. Identify customer needs, industry trends, and market dynamics to offer strategic solutions

Preferred Experience:

  • Customer interface/technical sales experience
  • Foundry casting, machining, and assembly experience and knowledge
  • Automotive or commercial vehicle experience highly preferred
  • Experience with CAD programs – Creo and NX are preferred
  • Experience with quality documentation including PFMEA’s, Control Plans, and APQP checklists

Compensation & Benefits

  • New hires generally start between $91,000 - $124,000.
  • The full salary range for the position, across all geographies, is $91,000 - $157,000 per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience.
  • Targeted annual bonus is based on company performance to objectives during the fiscal plan year which runs from October 1 – September 30.
  • Comprehensive employee benefits package, including medical/dental/vision coverage, life and disability protection.
  • Vacation plan – ConMet offers exempt employees a paid vacation benefit that provides the flexibility to take time off from work based on factors including good discretion, sound performance, and consideration of overall team and business needs.
  • Paid sick leave up to 10 days (80 hours) per calendar year
  • ConMet offers an extremely strong retirement package:
    • ESOP - Participation (100% company paid) in the ConMet/Amsted Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP). The Company contributes 10% of considered compensation into this plan each fiscal year.
    • 401k - The Company provides a 401(k) Plan with a 4% employer contribution match.
