Job Summary
The Technical Sales Engineer is responsible for sales and marketing of Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) solutions, which include equipment sales and part printing services.
The role works closely with customers to understand their technical and commercial requirements, assess the suitability of WAAM for their applications, and develop commercially viable solutions in collaboration with the engineering, production and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development and Sales
- Identify and develop new business opportunities for WAAM, metal additive manufacturing and related engineering services.
- Develop and maintain relationships with customers across diverse industries and identify new applications and market opportunities for WAAM and related advanced manufacturing solutions.
- Understand customers’ business needs, manufacturing challenges and technical requirements.
- Manage the sales process from lead generation and initial enquiry through technical evaluation, quotation, negotiation and order confirmation.
- Prepare sales proposals, quotations, presentations and tender submissions.
- Maintain a healthy sales pipeline and provide regular updates on opportunities, forecasts and customer activities.
- Support the achievement of revenue, order intake and profitability targets.
- Support the Company’s participation in customer meetings, industry events, exhibitions and technical seminars, as required.
2. Technical Application Support
- Assess customer component and application needs to determine their technical and commercial suitability for WAAM.
- Review technical drawings, specifications, materials, manufacturing requirements and applicable quality standards.
- Work with engineering teams to develop appropriate manufacturing concepts, process routes and technical solutions.
- Explain WAAM capabilities, design considerations, material options, process limitations and business benefits to customers.
- Support preliminary feasibility studies, time and material estimates, costing and return-on-investment assessments.
- Coordinate sample builds, demonstrations, trials and proof-of-concept projects.
- Provide technical clarification and support throughout the customer evaluation and sales process.
3. Proposal and Commercial Management
- Coordinate with engineering, operations, procurement and finance teams to develop accurate project costs and delivery schedules.
- Prepare technical and commercial proposals that clearly define the scope of work, deliverables, assumptions, exclusions and commercial terms.
- Ensure quotations meet the Company’s pricing, margin and risk-management requirements.
- Participate and manage the submission to customers’ tender and bidding process, ensuring the applicable information is submitted accurately and timely.
- Participatein commercial negotiations and contract reviews.
- Monitor project opportunities and follow up with customers to improve conversion rates.
4. Customer and Project Coordination
- Serve as a point of contact for customers during the pre-sales and early project stages, coordinating with the relevant internal teams as required.
- Ensure customer requirements and agreed project scope are properly communicated to the project and operations teams.
- Support the handover of confirmed orders to the relevant project execution team.
- Maintain customer relationships after project completion and identify opportunities for repeat business or expanded applications.
- Provide after-sales service support where relevant and required.
- Gather customer feedback and work with internal teams to address technical or service-related matters.
- Manage and use CRM platform to manage customers engagement and information.
- Support the use of ERP to manage planning and execution of activities and cost.
5. Market and Product Development
- Monitor market developments, competitor activities and emerging applications in WAAM and metal additive manufacturing.
- Identify new market segments, customer applicationsand partnership opportunities.
- Provide market feedback to support the development of the Company’s technology, services and commercial strategy.
- Develop technical marketing materials, case studies, application notes and customer presentations.
- Manage marketing and social media platforms (such as company website, Linked-In, advertisements) to ensure updated informationabout the Company is shared in the public domain.
- Contribute to seminars, workshops and other activities that promote customer understanding and adoption of WAAM technology.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Welding Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in technical sales, application engineering, business development or a customer-facing engineering role within the manufacturing or engineering sector.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing;
- Metal additive manufacturing;
- Welding or robotic welding;
- CNC machining;
- CAD/CAM;
- Metallurgy or materials engineering;
- Industrial automation; or
- Advanced manufacturing solutions.
- Experience in regional countries (South East Asia, India, Australia and New Zealand) would be advantageous
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and customer requirements.
- Experience preparing technical proposals, quotations and cost estimates would be an advantage.
- Candidates with strong relevant technical knowledge who wish to move into a customer-facing commercial role may also be considered.
