Technical Superintendent (Tankers)
Responsibilities
- Oversee the technical management and day-to-day performance of assigned tanker vessels to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
- Monitor vessel maintenance activities and ensure the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) is properly implemented and maintained.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise dry-docking, major repairs, surveys, modifications, and other technical projects within approved timelines and budgets.
- Ensure vessels comply with Class, Flag State, IMO, ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other applicable maritime regulations and company requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to Masters, Chief Engineers, and vessel teams on machinery, equipment, cargo systems, and other technical matters.
- Prepare, monitor, and control vessel technical budgets and operating expenditure while identifying opportunities for cost optimization.
- Coordinate with shipyards, classification societies, manufacturers, contractors, service providers, and suppliers for repairs, inspections, servicing, and procurement.
- Conduct regular vessel visits and technical inspections, identify deficiencies, and ensure corrective and preventive actions are completed promptly.
- Support tanker vetting inspections, internal and external audits, incident investigations, emergency response, and technical improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate technical records and reports, monitor vessel performance, and provide management with regular updates on vessel condition, maintenance, expenditure, and outstanding technical matters.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related engineering or maritime discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a Technical Superintendent managing tanker vessels and/or relevant senior seagoing engineering experience on oil, chemical, or product tankers.
- Good knowledge of tanker operations, marine engineering systems, Planned Maintenance Systems, dry-docking, vessel repairs, Class and Flag requirements, and applicable maritime regulations.
- Strong technical troubleshooting, analytical, planning, budgeting, communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Willingness to travel internationally for vessel visits, inspections, dry-dockings, shipyard attendance, and emergency technical support when required.
