Technical Systems Engineer

Discussion

Do you enjoy solving problems that involve both hardware and software?

Would you rather diagnose a faulty sensor, commission an IoT device, or investigate why a system isn't communicating than spend your day resetting passwords?

If so, we'd love to hear from you.

At Frogparking, we design, build, deploy, and support world-leading smart parking technology used across New Zealand, North America, Australia, and Europe. Our solutions combine IoT sensors, embedded hardware, cloud platforms, mobile applications, and analytics to help cities and organisations better manage their parking.

We're looking for a Technical Systems Engineer who enjoys getting hands-on with technology and thrives on solving real-world technical challenges.

This is not a traditional IT help desk role. You'll work across hardware, software, networking, and cloud systems to deploy, maintain, and improve our smart parking solutions.

What you'll be doing

No two days are the same, but your work may include:

  • Diagnosing faults across IoT devices, embedded hardware, and cloud-based systems.

  • Configuring and commissioning parking sensors, gateways, kiosks, and associated equipment.

  • Troubleshooting communications between field devices, networks, and cloud platforms.

  • Supporting software deployments, feature releases, and customer implementations.

  • Installing, maintaining, and servicing hardware both remotely and on-site.

  • Performing root cause analysis to identify and resolve technical issues.

  • Testing hardware and software before customer release.

  • Working alongside Software, Firmware, Engineering, Production, and Customer Success teams.

  • Creating and improving technical documentation, installation guides, and standard operating procedures.

  • Providing technical support to customers, field technicians, and installation partners.

  • Participating in a rotating after-hours support roster.

What you'll be working with

You'll regularly work with technologies such as:

  • IoT sensors and embedded devices

  • Electronic and electro-mechanical hardware

  • Wireless communications and networking

  • Cloud-hosted management platforms

  • Mobile applications

  • Diagnostic and testing equipment

  • Hardware installation and commissioning tools

About you

You'll probably have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Electronics

  • Mechatronics

  • Electrical engineering

  • Systems engineering

  • Field service engineering

  • Industrial automation

  • IoT technologies

  • Technical product support

  • Embedded systems

You don't need experience in every area, but you should enjoy learning new technologies and be comfortable working across both hardware and software.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

  • Enjoys working with physical hardware as much as software.

  • Can think logically and solve complex technical problems.

  • Is comfortable communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical people.

  • Has strong written communication and documentation skills.

  • Can manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Works well independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Holds a tertiary qualification in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Why Frogparking?

You'll join a New Zealand technology company that designs and manufactures its own products and supplies customers around the world. Rather than supporting someone else's technology, you'll help build, deploy, and improve solutions that make a real difference in smart cities globally.

We offer:

  • Interesting, varied technical work across hardware and software.

  • Exposure to modern IoT and cloud technologies.

  • A collaborative team that values innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Opportunities to grow your technical skills and career.

  • Competitive remuneration.

If you're someone who enjoys solving technical problems, getting hands-on with technology, and seeing your work used by customers around the world, we'd love to hear from you.
