Technical Tester (Web Automation, Playwright)

The role
We are looking for a Technical Tester to join our long-term partnership with ICA.
This is a full-time, on-site position in Sarajevo, with a start date as soon as possible.
The initial engagement is planned to run until March 2028, with the possibility of extension or continuation on another project within the wider ICA partnership.
This role requires a technically strong tester with hands-on programming and test automation experience. You should be comfortable writing, reviewing, debugging, and improving automation code — not only executing existing test suites.
The project makes extensive use of AI-assisted development and testing. You will be expected to evaluate, correct, and improve AI-generated automated tests and ensure that they are reliable, maintainable, and aligned with the actual business requirements.
Project
You will join an established development initiative building a new corporate web platform.
The work requires close collaboration with frontend developers, UX designers, business analysts, product owners, and other stakeholders. You will need to proactively learn the existing platform and business domain, as the new solution builds on functionality and knowledge from the current website.
The role combines hands-on test automation with manual and exploratory testing. You will help introduce structure, improve test coverage, and drive quality activities throughout the development lifecycle.
The work includes:
- Developing and maintaining automated tests for web applications
- Reviewing, debugging, and improving existing and AI-generated test code
- Building reliable automated regression coverage
- Identifying weak, flaky, duplicated, or incorrectly generated tests
- Planning and executing functional, exploratory, integration, and end-to-end testing
- Understanding business processes and translating them into meaningful test scenarios
- Evaluating testability and identifying gaps in requirements
- Understanding backend services and integrations supporting the web platform
- Integrating automated tests into development and CI/CD workflows
- Introducing structure and continuously improving QA processes and test coverage
- Collaborating with colleagues in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sweden
- Independently driving testing activities without extensive day-to-day guidance
Requirements:
- 4+ years of professional software testing experience
- Strong hands-on experience with web test automation
- Strong practical programming or scripting skills used for test automation
- Ability to independently write, debug, refactor, and maintain automation code
- Experience with Playwright or a comparable modern automation framework, such as Cypress, Selenium, or WebdriverIO
- Experience designing and maintaining reliable automated regression suites
- Ability to review and improve automated tests generated with AI tools
- Practical experience using AI-assisted tools in software testing or software development
- Strong experience with functional, exploratory, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing
- Experience with test planning, test design, execution, reporting, and defect management
- Good understanding of backend systems, APIs, and integrations supporting web applications
- Experience working with Git-based development workflows
- Ability to independently build domain knowledge and understand complex business processes
- Ability to introduce structure and improve testing practices within an established project
- Proactive, self-driven, and accountable approach to work
- Strong English communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Nice to have:
- Hands-on experience with Playwright and TypeScript
- Experience establishing or significantly improving a test automation framework
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
- API testing and automation experience
- SQL knowledge and experience validating application data
- Experience with GitHub, Jira, or Azure DevOps
- Experience with BrowserStack or similar platforms
- Experience with performance testing tools
- Previous experience in banking, insurance, or another business-critical domain
- ISTQB Foundation or another relevant testing certification
