Technical Writer, Engineering
Location: Riverside, CA
Salary Range: $71,000-$82,000
Position Summary
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, edit, and maintain complex technical publications including service manuals, operator manuals, parts catalogs, and maintenance guides for transit buses.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to gather technical specifications and translate them into easily understandable documentation.
- Create and update manufacturing work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Manage documentation revisions through the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process.
- Take and utilize digital photographs and CAD Models (e.g. SolidWorks) to create clear visual aids and illustrations for technical documents
- Ensure all documentation complies with safety regulations, APTA guidelines, and specific transit agency contractual requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Engineering, or a related field required.
- 3-5 years of technical writing experience, preferably in automotive, aerospace, or heavy-duty transit manufacturing.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in desktop publishing and authoring tools (e.g. Adobe Technical Communication Suite, MadCap Flare, Microsoft Office)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings schematics, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks) for extracting illustrations is highly preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong command of technical English.
