Technical Writer

This role offers the opportunity to create, refine, and manage high-quality business and technical documentation across complex client projects.
You will translate detailed technical information into clear, accurate, and accessible content for diverse audiences.
Working closely with subject matter experts, project managers, and stakeholders, you will ensure deliverables meet contractual, regulatory, and organizational standards.
The role combines technical writing, research, editing, content management, and process improvement.
You will also help establish documentation standards, workflows, templates, and SOPs that improve consistency and efficiency.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines will be essential.

Accountabilities
- Develop, write, edit, and refine business and technical documents, including proposals, reports, user manuals, briefings, presentations, functional descriptions, system specifications, guidelines, and other project deliverables.
- Create outlines and initial drafts for review by subject matter experts and project management, ensuring final materials satisfy contractual requirements, regulations, and applicable documentation standards.
- Research technical, business, financial, and background information using internal resources, online sources, client personnel, and relevant reference materials.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and managers to understand requirements, develop technical content, refine responses, and ensure terminology is accurate and appropriate for the intended audience.
- Review surveillance issues, ad hoc requests, project artifacts, and deliverables in detail before client submission, identifying content gaps and ensuring completeness and quality.
- Maintain consistent writing standards, formatting, terminology, and documentation practices while ensuring technical accuracy and clarity.
- Develop and continuously improve technical writing processes to increase efficiency, consistency, and the quality of project deliverables.
- Create and maintain project documentation, reports, SOPs, templates, workflows, and other materials that support operational standardization across the program.
- Manage SharePoint sites and document repositories, ensuring content is organized, current, accessible, and appropriately shared with project teams and stakeholders.
- Conduct online research on prospects and other relevant topics and support additional project requirements as assigned.
- Track and manage timelines associated with documentation requests, coordinating priorities to ensure deliverables are completed on schedule.
- Communicate clearly with clients, project teams, SMEs, and managers while maintaining strong organization and attention to detail across multiple concurrent assignments.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in English, History, Journalism, Communications, or another discipline emphasizing writing, rewriting, editing, and structured communication.
- At least 5 years of experience developing structured written materials, technical documentation, and visual aids.
- 2+ years of directly related IT-based experience.
- 3+ years of experience managing and organizing content within SharePoint.
- 3+ years of experience with business process mapping is preferred.
- 3+ years of experience developing high-level reports and presentations for leadership is preferred.
- Strong technical writing, editing, proofreading, and documentation skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to review content for clarity, grammar, consistency, technical accuracy, and appropriate customer or industry terminology.
- Strong research, analytical, organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience working directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to identify content gaps, interpret complex requirements, and coordinate effectively with SMEs and project managers.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and consistently meet demanding deadlines.
- Sole U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Ability to work onsite in the Metropolitan DC area under normal operating circumstances, although the position is currently remote.
- Annual salary range of $90,000–$115,000.
