Technical Writer - Part Time
This Technical Writer – Analyst II is responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining technical documentation, online help, and user guides for software applications developed in a CMMI Level 3 development company.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Project-related Responsibilities:
- Researches, writes, edits, and proof reads technical documentation such as manuals and online help within established time frames.
- Uses functional specifications and other source material, as well as interviews with the software engineers and other internal resources, to obtain needed information.
- Conducts tests and solicits inputs to ensure the clarity, completeness, technical accuracy, and quality of the documents produced.
- Functional Responsibilities:
- Follows and helps establish department guidelines in revising existing documents, writing new manuals, and submitting documents for review.
- As assigned, reviews documentation prepared by other department members to ensure editorial and technical quality.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- 3+ years’ experience in developing technical documentation.
- Experience using help authoring tools such as MadCap Flare and Adobe RoboHelp
- Ability to present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Able to deal constructively with conflict and develop consensus.
- Good research, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to write user documentation, quick reference guides, system documentation and procedure manuals.
- Ability to present information effectively and respond to client questions.
- Knowledge of industry tools and standards for technical communication
- Competent in both technical knowledge and writing ability.
- Strong working knowledge of technical documentation development
- Hands-on experience using MS Office suite.
- Clinical/research background is preferred,
- NIH-badged is a big plus
Office environment; may require working evenings and weekends. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; talk or hear. Work may involve long periods of standing. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
