Summary
Maintains and repairs industrial packaging and processing equipment in a food production plant, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for providing excellent customer service to the Production department. Work on all mechanical and electrical malfunctions of the plant equipment. Responsible to install, changeover, maintain and repair all plant equipment (processing, packaging, and support equipment). Assist the machine operators (PMO) in maintaining and improving packaging machine efficiencies. Help out in the development of equipment and process improvements that can contribute to the overall success of the company. Must develop leadership skills and be willing to help out and train the other employees within the Maintenance Department.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform regular and preventive maintenance on equipment to eliminate unscheduled downtime.
- Assist other department personnel as required.
- Dismantle defective machines and equipment to install new or repair parts following manufactures recommendations.
- Assist (PMO) operators in improving production efficiencies.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and exploded parts diagrams.
- Should be able to support production and departmental needs with little to no supervision.
- Take corrective action as required by initiated work orders through the CMMS system and write new work orders to account for unplanned maintenance time.
- Initiate purchase of required parts and materials to support maximum machine uptime.
- Upgrade skills and knowledge as equipment and technology develops.
- Understanding of industrial electricity and troubleshooting of related problems to include 5vdc and 24vdc control circuits.
- Responsible for the mechanical logic and the most complex electrical issues within the facility.
- Make recommendations for equipment upgrades and modifications to supervisors and management.
- Perform all work to reflect a commitment to quality and job ownership keeping in mind all safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe environment is maintained.
- A knowledge of VFFS machines, scales and supporting equipment like metal detectors, tape machines, and stretch wrappers is key to this position.
- Notify crew leader or supervisor of mechanical breakdowns.
