About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.

Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers and suppliers to build the energy industry of the future.

We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised nearly $3 billion in capital, making us the largest and leading private fusion company in the world.

Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.

If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

Join the power movement as a Contract Technician - Welding and Assembly
Join a cutting-edge team working to assemble, weld and test high precision electromechanical assemblies — critical to unlocking the future of clean energy. As a (TIG) Welder and Technician, you'll perform complex electromechanical assembly and in-house welding of large-scale metallic structures. This work will also include micro TIG welding on smaller component assemblies. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment, with a focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

What you'll do:

  • Assemble electromechanical components per detailed work instructions, drawings, and wiring diagrams
  • Operate production, testing, and high-powered magnet equipment
  • Use calibrated mechanical tools (e.g., torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers)
  • Troubleshoot assembly issues and suggest process improvements
  • Perform precision soldering, wiring, epoxy potting, injection molding, and vacuum system work
  • Collaborate with engineers to refine processes and improve manufacturability
  • Weld metallic structures and tooling using GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, and other methods
  • Read and analyze blueprints, perform detailed measurements, and plan welding layouts
  • Use manual welding equipment to produce welds in various positions (flat, vertical, overhead)
  • Weld stainless steel and copper, including pressure-rated and critical applications
  • Participate in welding equipment qualifications and inspections
  • Provide design feedback on weld geometries and material choices

What we’re looking for:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in electromechanical or electrical/mechanical assembly
  • 3+ years of welding experience with structural systems and tooling
  • Proficiency with a variety of hand tools, power tools, and measurement devices
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and schematics
  • Documented training or certifications in welding processes (e.g., GMAW, GTAW, SMAW)

Must-have requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Perform activities such as stooping, typing, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to travel occasionally or do required nights/weekends/on-call
