Position Title: Teen Outreach Librarian

Supervisor’s Title: Teen Services Manager FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Job Classification and Pay Range: Young Adult Librarian (MLS, Certified): $41,600 - $78,000 based on experience

Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Teen Services Manager, the Teen Outreach Librarian will connect with and empower teens inside and outside of the library through schools and other organizations serving teens by being a positive adult in the lives of the teens, modeling excellent behavior, and encouraging them to find their passion all while providing a safe and affirming environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Be willing to make and maintain community contacts outside of the library
  • Be an advocate for all teens in Bartholomew county
  • Work as a team with other Teen Services staff, as well as with other Outreach staff
  • Positively represent the library to the community
  • Be reliable and dependable with excellent follow-through
  • Be knowledgeable and have an interest in Young Adult literature
  • Have experience/or a passion for working with teens
  • Have excellent communication skills

The person in this position will:

  • Be the liaison between BCPL and the public and private middle and high schools in Bartholomew county
  • Spend time with teens outside of the library to build rapport through regularly scheduled programming and school/outreach visits
  • Build rapport with teens inside the library through regularly scheduled programming, and being available during after-school time in the Teen Area/Room
  • Work with other Teen Services and Outreach departments to maintain and develop collaborations between local agencies and BCPL for outreach programming opportunities
  • Conduct community-wide projects/programs that include teens inside and outside of the library
  • Assist in the planning, execution, and promotion of daily after school programs
  • Fill in for other Teen staff's programs as needed and as availability allows
  • Coordinate and take the lead on class visits and teen student tours at the library, conducting library instruction, research assistance, and reader's advisory during these events
  • Maintains awareness of current library trends, participates in professional meetings and conferences
  • Serve on relevant library teams and committees
  • Other duties as assigned
