TEM Analyst I

Position Summary:
The Analyst I performs routine analytical and technical work in support of asbestos analysis using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Working under direct supervision, this entry-level position is responsible for operating analytical instrumentation, collecting and documenting data, and following established quality and safety procedures. The Analyst I develops technical competency through training and hands-on experience while contributing to accurate, timely, and compliant laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform asbestos analysis and data collection according to established laboratory procedures, regulatory methods, and quality requirements
  • Operate transmission electron microscopes and associated analytical systems used for asbestos identification and characterization.
  • Maintain accurate records of test procedures, results, and observations in compliance with SOPs and QA/QC standards.
  • Identify and communicate equipment issues or data anomalies to senior staff.
  • Support laboratory organization by maintaining workspaces, inventory, and equipment logs.
  • Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to build technical and procedural knowledge.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding progress, results, and procedural concerns.

Qualifications:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Materials Science, or related technical field.
  • Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience:
  • 0–2 years of laboratory or technical experience (internships or academic research acceptable).
  • Familiarity with scientific instrumentation (microscopes preferred) or laboratory techniques preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety, procedures, and data documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures accurately.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with standard office software; familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIMS) is a plus.
