About the Role
A Wellington-based financial services organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Test Engineer to join a technology team supporting ongoing platform quality and delivery.
This is a hands-on quality engineering role with a strong focus on test automation, API and integration testing, SQL/data validation, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with Developers, Business Analysts, Test Engineers and other delivery stakeholders in an agile environment, helping teams understand product quality, identify risks, and make informed delivery decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Previous experience within banking, financial services, payments or lending environments is highly desirable, particularly testing products or processes relating to deposit products, interest calculations, or financial transactions. Experience with data-driven testing, migration testing or reconciliation testing would also be highly regarded.
Senior-Level Capability
As a Senior Test Engineer, you will be expected to contribute beyond test execution alone, including contributing to test strategies, identifying risks early, working autonomously across teams, participating in code reviews, and mentoring others. Familiarity with BDD approaches such as Gherkin or Cucumber would be beneficial.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain automated test suites across API, integration, system and web testing
- Build and improve API automation using modern testing tools and frameworks
- Prepare test approaches, scenarios and test data in collaboration with Developers and Business Analysts
- Use SQL, APIs and application data to validate business rules, calculated values and integration outcomes
- Support regression, exploratory, system and end-to-end testing across complex environments
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and continuously improve test coverage, reliability and execution speed
- Investigate and triage defects, test failures, data issues and environment problems
- Identify testing risks, dependencies and impacts across systems and delivery teams
- Communicate test coverage, quality risks and outcomes clearly to stakeholders
- Contribute to testing standards, automation best practice and continuous improvement across the wider testing practice
- Support and mentor other testers where required
- 5+ years' experience delivering testing outcomes across web, API, system and integration environments
- Strong experience designing, developing and maintaining automated test frameworks and test suites
- Hands-on experience with at least one modern automation tool or framework, ideally Playwright, Postman, Bruno or NUnit with C#
- Strong API testing and automation capability, with REST APIs a must and exposure to SOAP and/or gRPC beneficial
- Programming experience using C#, Java or Python, with the ability to write clean and maintainable automation code
- Strong SQL and database querying skills, including data validation and verification of calculated values
- Experience using Git, branching and pull-request workflows
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Strong debugging, defect triage and test-failure investigation capability
- Experience working within Agile, DevOps or Continuous Delivery environments
