Test Engineer Intern - Grand Rapids Site
Summary
A full-time, onsite summer internship (May-August) in Grand Rapids, MI, where the intern supports the Engineering team on automated test systems, software verification and validation, test execution, troubleshooting, and data analysis for safety-critical aerospace and avionics products.
What You Will Do
- Support the development and maintenance of automated test software and test systems.
- Assist with test execution, data collection, and analysis for engineering and production testing.
- Help troubleshoot hardware, software, and test equipment issues.
- Support software verification and validation activities.
- Assist with integration, setup, and testing of automated test stations.
- Create and update technical documentation, work instructions, test procedures, and reports.
- Participate in root cause investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support improvements to automated test equipment, including yield improvement, test time reduction, reliability enhancements, and process optimization.
- Analyze test results and communicate findings to engineering teams.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams on cross-functional projects.
- Follow company procedures and aerospace quality standards while supporting safe and reliable product development.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and returning to school following the internship.
- Basic programming experience through coursework, projects, or previous internships.
- Basic understanding of electrical and electronic circuits.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while seeking guidance when appropriate.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with C, C++, Python, LabVIEW, or similar programming languages.
- Coursework involving embedded systems, electronics, controls, software development, or test engineering.
- Familiarity with laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, digital multimeters, and signal generators.
- Exposure to automated testing, data acquisition, instrumentation, or manufacturing test systems.
- Basic knowledge of communication interfaces such as RS-232, RS-422, I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet, or similar technologies.
- Interest in aerospace, avionics, RF systems, manufacturing test systems, or safety-critical products.
- Experience participating in engineering projects, design teams, research activities, technical competitions, or student engineering organizations.
