Testing Technician - Deeside, UK

Salamander Solutions Ltd is a global manufacturer of heater cable systems for the oil industry and is seeking a skilled and experienced Testing Technician to join our Deeside team in North Wales, UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing electrical and mechanical Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) on completed cables and heater systems, while also supporting broader manufacturing and R&D activities. In this hands-on role, you will help ensure our products meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and safety before delivery to customers. This candidate should possess a strong commitment to safety, especially in a manufacturing setting, and a proactive approach to promoting safety culture through PPE use are essential.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) on cables and heater systems to verify performance and quality standards
  • Perform routine and specialized electrical testing on mineral-insulated cable systems
  • Prepare cable samples and perform medium voltage terminations for testing
  • Conduct tensile and hardness testing as part of QA/QC processes
  • Support R&D initiatives aimed at improving cable performance
  • Manage and maintain inventory of testing materials and equipment
  • Uphold and promote strict adherence to safety protocols, PPE requirements, and industry regulations
  • Maintain accurate, thorough records of test procedures, calibrations, and maintenance activities
  • Provide general production support as needed

Testing Equipment Experience (Preferred):

  • Line frequency HiPot (up to 50kV)
  • Very low frequency (VLF) HiPot
  • DC Insulation Testing
  • Tan-Delta Testing
  • Power Analysis Meters
  • Inductance and Capacitance Meters
  • High Current Injection
  • Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) Fault Finding
  • Data Acquisition and Logging Equipment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of QA/QC experience with electrical systems and test equipment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise reports.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Solid understanding of electrical systems and safety standards within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office for record-keeping and report generation.
  • Practical experience with hand and power tools.
