The Director of Youth Evangelization & Executive Assistant to the Rector

The Basilica of Saint Mary's of the Immaculate Conception, in Norfolk Virginia is seeking a Director of Youth Evangelization.

The Director of Youth Evangelization is responsible for the development, coordination, supervision, and execution of the Basilica’s faith formation ministries designed to engage, educate, and empower middle and high school youth (6th through 12th grade). The Director also oversees the necessary preparations for the Sacrament of Confirmation for high school. Supports the Rector as his Executive Assistant by managing the administrative needs of Basilica wedding celebrations (e.g., manages wedding calendar through consultation with the Director of Operations); ensures marriage files are complete; works with the Rector to schedule initial meetings with couples. The EA also maintains the Basilica’s Sacramental Records; provides Sacramental certificates for Rector’s signature when requested; handles some of the Rector’s correspondences; and provides additional administrative support to the Rector as directed.

This position is regular, full-time (35 hours a week). The Director/EA is to maintain a presence in the office, as well as a frequent presence at weekend liturgies. The Director/EA’s work schedule and weekly hours will be established and reviewed with the Rector.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in catechesis and administrative support. Must be an active member of the Catholic Church with an understanding of the teaching and mission of the Church. The candidate should possess leadership abilities in planning, administration, volunteer management; demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills; exhibit strong organizational skills, including time management, delegation, planning, and budgeting; have an ability to work independently and organize and arrange priorities, completing tasks in a timely manner. The ideal candidate displays tolerance and sensitivity, and too, the ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
