JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the technical operations, maintenance, and support of the Historic Canton Theatre.


MAJOR DUTIES

  • Maintains all technical equipment including stage and house lights, speakers, microphones, sound board, projector, screen, etc. Schedules maintenance and repair as needed.
  • Maintains an inventory of all technical equipment.
  • Maintains a list of technical specifications for all facility renters and contracted performers.
  • Reviews and advises Theatre Director on technical riders for contracted performers.
  • Oversees load in and load out for facility rentals and contracted performers.
  • Approves technical design and integration with our system for all facility rentals.
  • Assists with setup and breakdown of all events, including tables and chairs.
  • Ensures that appropriate safety requirements are observed by renters, including keeping aisles free and clear of obstructions such as speakers and gear.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with the Theatre Director and Assistant Theatre Manager on all Canton Theatre produced events.
  • Performs day-to-day facilities maintenance at the Canton Theatre, including changing lightbulbs, air filters, etc.
  • Coordinates with Public Works on larger maintenance needs such as fire alarm servicing and testing, HVAC servicing, etc.
  • Performs related duties as requested.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of theatre production equipment and systems including lighting, sound systems, projectors, screens, and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable occupational and facility safety practices.
  • Knowledge of basic building and facility maintenance practices, including lighting, air filters, and other routine maintenance tasks.
  • Skill in identifying equipment or facility issues and determining when maintenance or specialized repair services are needed.
  • Skill in using hand tools and other equipment necessary for routine theatre and facility maintenance.
  • Ability to independently operate and troubleshoot a variety of theatre production equipment.
  • Ability to perform routine facility maintenance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to lift, carry, move and position equipment, tables, chairs, and other event materials.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Theatre Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.


GUIDELINES

Guidelines include Historic Canton Theatre guidelines, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied facility and equipment maintenance duties. Coordinating activities with multiple groups and vendors contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to maintain technical and facility operations at the Historic Canton Theatre. Successful performance contributes to the success of theatre operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed while intermittently standing, stooping, kneeling, walking, reaching, climbing ladders and lifting light to heavy objects.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a high school diploma and a course of study related to the occupational field.
    • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
