GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The employee in this classification, under the supervision of an assigned supervisor, performs nursing rehabilitation/restorative care to promote the residents’ ability to adapt and adjust to living as independently and safely as possible; provides skill practice in activities such as, but not limited to, range of motion, splint/brace assistance, walking and mobility, dressing and grooming, toileting, eating and swallowing, amputation care and communication to improve or maintain function in physical abilities and ADLs and prevent further impairment; performs related duties as assigned.

Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position; dexterity of hands and fingers to perform resident care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The statements contained in this position description are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position; but are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties to be performed.

  • Performs restorative nursing services in accordance with care plans and facility policies and procedures. Providing guidance and assistance in activities related to range of motion, splint/brace assistance, bed mobility, transfers/walking, dressing/grooming, eating/swallowing, toileting, amputation/ prosthesis care, and communication; to include small group activities.
  • Provides guidance and assistance in activities used to improve or maintain the resident’s self- performance including repetition, physical or verbal cueing, and task segmentation during activities to improve or maintain functional abilities.
  • Assists with tracking the condition of splints/braces of residents who require them. Reports lost or broken splints/braces to nurse and supervisor.
  • Completes flow sheets daily to indicate that the specified restorative nursing task was done. Documents the progress of each resident as directed by supervisor. Reports changes in a resident’s condition to the resident’s nurse and supervisor and write narrative notes regarding reported changes.
  • Keeps nurse and supervisor informed of factors that interfere with being able to perform the work as assigned (i.e. resident refusal, reassigned to nursing unit).
  • Networks with the skilled therapies, nursing, and with CENA’s for integration with the total nursing program.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
  • Attends care-plan meetings of assigned residents as able.
  • Participates in QAPI or facility assessment activities as needed, such as carrying out duties assigned as part of a performance improvement committee.
  • Accepts certified nursing assistant assignments as staffing needs require. Performs certified nursing assistant duties as assigned, in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Uses proper lifting and body mechanics while delivering care to residents.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Knowledgeable of restorative nursing practices, and ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to meet resident needs.
  • Positive interpersonal relationship skills, strong listening skills, effective time management skills to complete assignments, and ability to deal with conflict with professionalism and courtesy.
