Therapist - School Based
Summary
Provide trauma-competent therapy to K-12 students, coordinate with schools and families, and maintain clinical documentation per state and Medicaid standards.
- The School-Based Therapist provides trauma-competent, school-integrated therapy services to students in elementary, middle, and high school settings. The therapist collaborates with school personnel, families, and case managers to support the student’s emotional and behavioral well-being, academic progress, and family stability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Clinical Services
- Complete diagnostic assessments with students and families in accordance with state and agency guidelines.
- Develop treatment plans that address social-emotional and behavioral health needs.
- Deliver evidence-based individual, family, and/or group therapy during or after school hours.
- Provide crisis support and safety planning in collaboration with school and agency teams.
- Adjust interventions as clinically indicated using outcome-informed practices.
School Collaboration
- Communicate regularly with school staff regarding student progress, needs, and coordination.
- Participate in school team meetings (i.e. IEP, Care Team, etc.) when appropriate.
- Serve as a liaison between school and family to promote wraparound support.
- Educate school personnel on trauma-informed approaches and student support strategies.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain timely and accurate records in the electronic health record.
- Ensure documentation meets Medicaid, OhioMHAS, and COA standards.
- Submit assessments, plans, progress notes, and outcome measures within deadlines.
Professional Responsibilities
- Attend supervision, school-based team meetings, and agency trainings.
- Maintain current licensure and complete continuing education as required.
- Comply with all agency policies, confidentiality regulations, and ethical standards.
- Framework Accountability
- Demonstrate Trauma Competence in all interactions with youth, families, and partners.
- Follow Zero Suicide protocols in suicide screening, documentation, and follow-up.
- Practice with cultural humility and uphold the principles of Unified Perspectives.
- Provides services in alignment with funder requirements (i.e., Stark MHAR, grant foundations, etc.)
- Model and encourage the agency’s 7 core values – Love, Recognize, Respect, Security, Success, Responsibility and Personal Involvement.
- Performs duties as assigned by agency leadership.
