About the Role

IAR is part of Qt Group, operating as an independent business focused on embedded software development. We provide software development tools that help engineers develop, debug, test, and secure embedded software for products across automotive, industrial automation, medical technology, and other industries.

We are looking for students interested in completing a bachelor’s or master's thesis together with our Engineering organization in Uppsala. Your thesis will focus on a defined technical challenge connected to our products, tools, or development environment, combining academic investigation with practical engineering. You will get insight into the challenges our engineers work with every day while investigating a topic that has both academic relevance and practical value for IAR.

What You’ll Do

Depending on the topic and academic level, your work may involve research, evaluation, implementation, testing, or a combination of:

  • Explore and define a technical problem together with your IAR supervisor and development team
  • Research existing approaches, technologies, or methods relevant to the problem
  • Design, implement, or prototype potential solutions
  • Test, measure, and evaluate your results in a real engineering environment
  • Work closely with software engineers and gain hands-on insight into our products, technology, and development processes
  • Document your findings, draw conclusions, and present the outcome of your thesis

What You Bring to the Table

  • We are looking for students who are curious about software development and enjoy understanding how things work beyond the surface.
  • You are currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • You have programming experience from your studies, personal projects, previous internships, or work
  • You have an interest in embedded systems, software development, testing, debugging, automation, or developer tools
  • You enjoy investigating technical problems and turning ideas into practical solutions
  • You are comfortable taking ownership of your work while asking questions and collaborating with others
  • You can communicate your work and findings clearly in English

Bonus Points For...

  • Experience with C, C++, Python, or similar programming languages
  • Previous exposure to embedded systems, software testing, test automation, debugging, CI/CD, or development tools
  • Personal or university projects where you have independently explored and solved a technical problem
