Tile Settler

  • Apply a layer of material (e.g: cement) to the floor or other surfaces.
  • Check that surface of substrate using a 2-m straight edge to ensure that it is level and true to design specifications.
  • Fill joints and gaps with cement or plaster to ensure complete coverage of the surface.
  • Lay tiles and timber according to the standard code of practice.
  • Mix bedding materials according to manufacturer’s instruction.
  • Perform task in accordance to organisational safety procedures.
  • Prepare surface in accordance to industrial practices and manufacturer’s recommendation to ensure adhesion of the material.
  • Set out tile lines according to the approved tiling setting out drawings and design specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Surface Preparation: Preparing surfaces by removing old tiles, grout, and adhesive, filling holes and cracks, and cleaning surfaces according to Jobs and Skills Australia.
  • Tile Installation: Measuring, marking, and laying out tiles, applying adhesive, and setting tiles in place.
  • Cutting and Shaping: Cutting and shaping tiles to fit around obstacles, corners, and fixtures using hand and power tools.
  • Grouting and Finishing: Applying grout, cleaning excess grout, and ensuring a smooth, even finish.
  • Material Management: Calculating material needs, ordering and receiving materials, and managing waste.
  • Quality Control: Ensuring tiles are aligned, spaced correctly, and installed to meet quality standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Following safety regulations and maintaining a clean and safe work area.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Working with other tradespeople and clients, potentially providing quotes and estimates.
  • Problem Solving: Identifying and resolving issues related to tile installation.
