Job Summary
MacLean-Fogg is hiring a Tool & Die Maker Trainee - 2nd Shift at our Chesterfield, Michigan manufacturing facility. In this developmental role, you'll support tooling fabrication, modification, and repair while building hands-on skills in blueprint reading, precision measurement, machining, and die assembly under supervision.
Location: Chesterfield, MI
Work Arrangement: On-site
Schedule: 2nd Shift, Monday-Friday
Pay: $18-$20/hr

What You'll Do as a Tool & Die Maker Trainee
Assist Tool and Die Makers with the fabrication, modification, and repair of dies and tooling components.
Read and interpret blueprints, part prints, engineered drawings, and specifications with a supervisor or lead to understand dimensions and tolerances.
Support machining plans, including material selection, tooling requirements, and the sequence of operations.
Measure, mark, and lay out workpieces using precision measuring instruments, then set up and operate manual equipment under guidance, including mills, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, band saws, and ID and OD grinders.
Assist with machining calculations such as speed, feed, and depth of cut; monitor equipment for irregularities or out-of-tolerance conditions and report findings.
Inspect finished components using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other measuring equipment to verify conformance.
Assist with die assembly and bench work, including fitting, polishing, and minor adjustments; maintain awareness of steel inventory and material selection for tooling applications.
Maintain tool room equipment and work areas in accordance with 5S and Lean standards, follow safety, environmental, and quality procedures, and report hazards promptly.

Technical training in machining or manufacturing.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This role involves standing and walking for extended periods throughout the shift.
Employees in this role frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.
The position requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and tooling weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
The role involves repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements.
Employees work around industrial machining equipment and moving mechanical parts.
Required PPE includes safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
