Tool and Gage Designer
Summary
An experienced designer at McCormick Stevenson (a Paligen Technologies subsidiary) creates complete design and drawing packages for custom tooling and production gages, checking drawings to ASME Y14.5 standards and supporting DoD-related clients. Core skills are 3D CAD, GD&T, and gage/fixture design; the role is hybrid in Clearwater, FL.
- Prepare and/or review sketches/layouts.
- Provide complete design and drawing packages for custom tooling and production gages.
- Create and check drawings for correctness and compliance with ASME Y14.5
- Provide guidance to technical staff & customers in the development of technical documentation to applicable industry standards.
- Proactively work with internal and external teammates to ensure the technical compliance of designs and all internal and customer design requirements are satisfied.
- Maintain knowledge on related industry best practices and technological advancements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in tool and gage design.
- Advanced understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Advanced understanding of ASME Y14.43 Gage and Fixture Dimension & Tolerancing Principles.
- Advanced understanding of ASME Y14.100 and associated drafting specifications.
- 3D CAD proficiency.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Familiarity with machine tool operation, i.e. mill, lathe, surface grinder, EDM.
- Familiarity with mechanical inspection, CMM, and open setup.
- Understanding of DoD design process and project structure.
- Exceptional written & verbal communication skills.
- MS Office PowerPoint, Word, Excel proficiency.
- Ability to obtain a Secret DoD clearance.
- AS or Engineering Technology degree from an accredited school
- Creo and/or SolidWorks proficiency
- 3D CAD mastery
- ASME GD&T Professional Certification (GDTP)
- Travel: Up to 10% of total time to support customer locations.
