TOOLMAKER

You will serve as a TOOLMAKER in the MACHINE SHOP BRANCH of NAVAL FOUNDRY AND PROPELLER CENTER.

You will design, manufacture, calibrate, recondition, and repair machine shop tools, jigs, fixtures, and gages used by workers performing machining and assembly work, as well as various types of dies used in metal working press operations.

You will plan and lay out jigs and fixtures for fabrication and assembly, normally working from blueprints, sketches, or molds of end items to be made.

You will determine specification of jig or fixture to be made; select suitable metal stock, calculate necessary dimensions and tolerances; and plan overall sequence of work operations

You will assemble parts and check completed jig or fixture for accuracy using precision measuring instruments.

You will manufacture machine cutting tools such as gear cutters, hobs, double angle cutters, form tools and branches as well as dies for punch presses.

You will repair, modify and calibrate precision measuring instruments used in the machine shop such as Vernier gages, inside and outside micrometers, depth micrometers, gage blocks and dial indicators
