Description

We are now recruiting for a Tools, Process and Change Manager based in Hong Kong.

About the opportunity

Our teams use a mix of shared Tesco platforms, locally developed applications and operational processes. These have evolved over time, creating opportunities to reduce duplication, manual effort and unnecessary complexity.

You will report to the Head of Enabling Functions, who leads Sourcing’s People, communications, governance and planning activities and oversees its engagement with Technology. The team helps Sourcing deliver its priorities by strengthening culture and capability and improving tools, processes and ways of working. This role sits within Sourcing to provide business ownership and coordination, while technical specialists remain within their Technology teams.

You will bring dedicated process improvement and business–technology partnering expertise to the team, helping us understand what is getting in the way, agree what matters most and turn ideas into practical, sustainable improvements.

The variety is part of the opportunity. Some improvements you will lead and deliver directly with business colleagues and technical specialists. For larger changes led by central Tesco Technology teams, you will be the Sourcing point person, shaping requirements and coordinating local implementation and adoption. You will be comfortable moving between both, managing several priorities and knowing where your involvement adds most value.

About the Role

To lead practical improvements to the tools, processes and ways of working used across Tesco Sourcing, reducing unnecessary complexity and manual effort and helping teams work more effectively.

You will own the Sourcing-side improvement process: understanding business problems, prioritising opportunities, agreeing the right delivery route and driving agreed improvements through to implementation and adoption. This includes improving policies, processes and ways of working as well as making better use of technology.

Working with Sourcing colleagues, central Tesco Technology teams and local technical specialists, you will translate business needs into clear requirements and coordinate delivery. You do not need to be a developer or deep technical specialist. You do need practical process improvement skills, confidence working with technology specialists and the judgement to make progress within a complex organisation and constrained resources.

You will be responsible for

  • Understand problems before choosing solutions. Work with colleagues to identify root causes across policies, processes, responsibilities, data and systems. Map current and future processes where complexity warrants it, without over-engineering straightforward improvements.

  • Own intake, triage and prioritisation. Maintain a clear view of incoming requests, assess value, effort, risk and dependencies and recommend what to progress, defer or stop. Keep the demand backlog linked to, but distinct from, the delivery plan.

  • Find the right route. Consider process simplification and existing Tesco capabilities before additional development. Work with relevant teams to determine whether a need belongs with central Technology, local Sourcing technical specialists or another business owner. Explore new products and business cases where justified, subject to funding and approvals.

  • Lead practical improvements. Take hands-on ownership of agreed Sourcing-led work, bringing together business owners and technical specialists, clarifying decisions and dependencies and keeping delivery moving. Reduce duplicate tools, manual workarounds and unnecessary reporting, supporting agreed transitions away from legacy applications.

  • Represent Sourcing in wider change. Act as the business point person for relevant centrally led programmes. Shape requirements, explain operational impacts and coordinate Sourcing input to design, testing, rollout and adoption while central teams retain their delivery responsibilities.

  • Build support and follow through. Influence partners whose priorities and capacity sit outside Sourcing, secure decisions and escalate barriers appropriately. Maintain clear ownership and communication through to an agreed outcome, rather than simply passing requests between teams.

  • Make improvements stick. Put clear process ownership, documentation, guidance and handover arrangements in place. Work with colleagues to change everyday practices and review whether improvements are being adopted and delivering the intended benefit.

You will need

  • Experience delivering practical process or business improvements in a complex, established organisation, with examples of understanding a problem and carrying the solution through to adoption.

  • Practical process mapping and redesign experience: able to analyse more complex end-to-end workflows, handoffs and approval steps and turn that analysis into simpler ways of working.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity and sound judgement. You question why work is done a particular way, look for root causes and challenge constructively rather than jumping straight to a system or tool.

  • A proportionate approach: comfortable delivering a quick win when that is enough and applying more structured analysis when it is needed.

  • Confidence translating between business colleagues and technology specialists, explaining requirements and understanding options, constraints and trade-offs without needing to code.

  • Strong prioritisation and organisation, with the flexibility to lead some initiatives directly and coordinate business input to others while managing multiple workstreams.

  • Evidence of influencing across teams, navigating competing priorities and delivering useful improvements with limited resources, including within legacy processes or systems.

  • Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate clearly with international colleagues and UK-based business and technology partners.

  • A self-starting, collaborative approach and the ability to work through ambiguity, build relationships and document decisions clearly.
