NONAPPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Tour Guide JOB SERIES: 0090 PAY LEVEL: NF-02 INTRODUCTION: The position is located within the MCCS Tours+ Office which provides a comprehensive and versatile tours program for military personnel and their dependents, to include customizing for the Marine Unit Deployment Program on Okinawa. The tours offered encompass local and international tours, e.g., Okinawa Battle Sites, Expo Park, Pineapple Park, Shuri Castle, Peace Park, Ie Island, Ishigaki Island, Tokyo Disneyland and, Mt. Fuji, Osaka, and Kyoto to include Asian countries such as South Korea, Australia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Tour Operations: Independently plans and conducts a wide variety of local and international tours ranging from short excursions to extended trips for groups of up to 50 people. Delivers engaging presentations covering local history, facts, cultural insights, and points of interest. Answers inquiries courteously, exercising sound judgment when framing responses. Maintains tour schedules, enforces safety regulations, and ensures the well-being of all participants. Guest Support & Navigation: Assists guests with public transportation ticketing, train navigation, hotel check-ins, and local etiquette. Translates conversations and provides cultural background to help guests navigate local facilities respectfully. Community Outreach & Events: Packages and presents information about Tours+ at Newcomer Orientations, briefings, and club functions. Coordinates and operates the Tours+ promotional booth at major festivals and special events. Administrative & Desk Support: Provides front-desk coverage and administrative assistance during non-tour periods or as operational needs arise. Delivers exceptional customer service to walk-in and telephone patrons, assists with registrations, handles inquiries, and resolves customer complaints with tact and diplomacy (escalating complex issues to management when necessary). Logistics & Preparation: Research routes, road conditions, parking availability, and site information prior to trips. Assists the Tours+ Coordinator in preparing tour packages and scheduling offerings based on demand, costs, and availability. May operate vehicles (up to a 10-passenger van) to transport groups. Program Improvement & Support: Recommends operational and policy improvements to the Tours+ Manager. Assists in training new or junior tour guides as assigned. Work Schedule Requirement: Must be available to work weekends, holidays, evening shifts, and participate in overseas travel as tour schedules dictate.
