Track Control & Safety Operations Specialist (575790) (Dearborn, MI)
Description
Track Controller
We fuse technology and engineering to turn ambitious ideas into hardware that has to perform. On the test track, that only happens when every session is planned, controlled, and closed with discipline. As Track Controller, you keep vehicles, crews, and schedules moving safely so engineers get clean data and customers get answers—not delays.
Performance Objectives
- Run the daily track plan so scheduled tests start on time and priority programs keep their committed window.
- Control track access, vehicle movements, and session handoffs so concurrent tests never conflict and safety rules are followed without exception.
- Brief drivers, technicians, and engineers before each run and confirm the track is clear, configured, and ready for the test objective.
- Capture session status, incidents, and downtime in real time so program leads can adjust the plan the same day.
- Resolve on-track conflicts and weather or equipment holds quickly, protecting both people and the test schedule.
- Close each day with an accurate activity log that engineering and operations can use for the next build and the next quote.
Environment & Resources
You work onsite with vehicle engineering, prototype, test technicians, and program management in a fast, hands-on test operation. You report to track operations leadership and coordinate directly with the crews running the cars. Radios, track procedures, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office are your daily kit. Decisions are made at the track, with leadership backing when a session must stop.
Essential Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, with at least 3 years coordinating vehicle testing, track operations, motorsports, or a comparable high-tempo technical environment.
- Proven ability to enforce safety procedures and stop activity when conditions are not right.
- Skill reading test plans, timing sheets, and basic vehicle or track layouts, and translating them into a clear run order.
- Calm, precise communication by radio and in person with drivers, technicians, and engineers under time pressure.
- Reliable attendance for onsite shifts, including early starts and occasional overtime when a program is on the clock.
Role Selling Points
- Your calls directly protect test quality for transportation, aerospace, defense, and other demanding programs.
- You see prototypes and development vehicles in the real world, not only on a screen.
- Creativity and tenacity are expected—bring a better way to run the day and it will be heard.
- Full-time benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, earned sick time, short- and long-term disability, 401(k), tuition reimbursement, paid vacation, and paid holidays.
