What you'll be doing:
The Trade Commissioner role in Sāo Paulo is a dynamic leadership position, responsible for growing New Zealand exports into Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. We are looking for someone who is a strong, empathetic leader with a commercial mind set and passion for growing New Zealand businesses.
As Trade Commissioner, you'll be leading a team of experienced Business Development Managers whose networks and knowledge are vital to achieving commercial outcomes for New Zealand companies. You will foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement; empowering the team to deliver impactful customer work efficiently.
You will work closely with our Export Customer team based in New Zealand. Acting as a key contact for the region, you will also engage across government agencies, business, and media, fostering influential relationships that strengthen New Zealand’s presence in the market. Utilising your international commercial knowledge to help New Zealand exporters scale faster and partnering effectively across the organisation you will ensure NZTE delivers a seamless “One Global Team” experience for our exporters.
You'll provide in-market connections and advice that will enable our customers to navigate the complex and evolving Latin American markets successfully and help build the profile of New Zealand exports. As an envoy championing New Zealand, you'll also represent New Zealand at key business events and play a key role in implementing NZTE's strategic priorities in Sāo Paulo and across the region.
What you'll need to be successful:
We are looking for someone with a commercial mind set and passion for growing New Zealand businesses. In previous roles you will have been responsible for business development, marketing, sales or strategy with a focus on helping to grow companies and understand the Latin American commercial environment.
In this role you'll advise NZTE customers on successful 'go-to-market' or expansion strategies. You'll need to be comfortable having strategic conversations with companies at a senior executive level, where you will provide insights to ensure customers understand local complexity. You'll have exceptional relationship and influencing skills and be a confident and credible communicator.
This is a dynamic, high visibility leadership role. As Trade Commissioner, you will lead a small team of Business Development Managers; inspiring, guiding, and further elevating their performance and building their capability.
In addition to Portuguese, fluency in English and Spanish is required for this role.
