Job Summary
The Traffic Marshal is responsible for directing and controlling the movement of trucks, heavy vehicles and pedestrians within the worksite. The role supports safe and efficient traffic flow and helps prevent accidents, congestion and operational disruptions.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and guide trucks, heavy vehicles and other site traffic.
- Guide vehicles during entry, exit, reversing, loading, unloading and parking activities.
- Use approved hand signals, signs, radios and communication devices to guide drivers.
- Ensure vehicles follow designated traffic routes and speed limits.
- Monitor pedestrian walkways and vehicle routes to prevent unsafe interaction.
- Control vehicle movements during busy operational periods.
- Assist drivers in navigating restricted or congested areas safely.
- Enforce the site traffic management plan and company safety procedures.
- Check that traffic signs, cones, barriers and warning devices are properly positioned.
- Conduct routine inspections of traffic-control equipment and report defects.
- Maintain clear communication with drivers, contractors, visitors and site personnel.
- Stop vehicle movements immediately when unsafe conditions are observed.
- Report traffic violations, unsafe conditions, incidents and near misses to the supervisor.
- Support emergency response and vehicle-control arrangements when required.
- Perform other related site duties assigned by the supervisor.
