Summary: The Train Engineer / Maintenance Specialist plays a key role in keeping Alaska Riverways, Inc.'s trains, facilities, and equipment running safely and reliably. This hands-on position combines locomotive operation, mechanical maintenance, and facility upkeep to ensure our historic attractions are ready to deliver an exceptional guest experience every day. Responsibilities include maintaining diesel and electric locomotives, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems, caring for buildings and grounds, and supporting seasonal startup, shutdown, and improvement projects. During the operating season, this position is primarily based at Gold Dredge 8, supporting daily train operations and site maintenance. In the off-season, the role transitions to Steamboat Landing / Riverboat Discovery, where the focus shifts to maintenance, repairs, facility improvements, and preparing our attractions for the next season. Working closely with leadership and operations teams, this position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, working with their hands, and helping keep every aspect of our operation on track.

Job Schedule: This position will begin as a temporary seasonal role, with the potential to transition into a full-time, year-round position upon successful completion of the probationary period and based on operational needs and performance.

Mid-October through mid-March. 40 hours per week, no overtime.

Summer Season: Mid-March through Mid-October. Longer hours, weekend shifts and overtime are expected. Typical schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch, subject to change with evening maintenance. Two days off per week once the season has started.

Benefits & Pay: $24-27 per hour, DOE, with an annual performance bonus of up to 12% of base salary. Additional benefits include health insurance, profit sharing, and flexible time off.
