Transfer Advisor

Summary

Advises transfer students on degree planning, course selection, and college resources to ensure academic success and timely graduation.

The Transfer Advisor is responsible for providing holistic academic guidance and support to students transferring from another institution, assisting them with course selection, major exploration, and navigating the transition process to the College, ensuring a smooth integration and maximizing their academic and personal success.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides individualized academic support to transfer students, including developing personalized degree plans, and advice on course selection to ensure efficient progress towards graduation.
  • Provides pre-arrival support for transfer students beginning at the point of enrollment.
  • Teaches APEX-050/APEX-051 to cohort of new, incoming transfer students Fall and Spring semesters and/or cohort of FY Students as needed.
  • Assists students in exploring potential majors based on their interests, academic background, and career goals.
  • Ensures transfer students are familiar with the College’s policies, procedures, academic programs, and student support services.
  • Delivers support and strategies and connects advisees to resources (i.e., tutoring, counseling, financial aid, disability services, etc.) as they work with students to achieve their personal and professional goals.
  • Coordinates the Transfer Student Mentoring program- hire, train, and supervisor student mentors.
  • Collaborates with Admissions, Financial Aid, Campus Life, Wellness & Health Promotion, and individual academic departments to ensure transfer students receive comprehensive, holistic support.
  • Monitors potential barriers to transfer student success and recommends modifications to processes, policies, and systems.
  • Engages in ongoing communication, collaboration, and support for faculty, and other professional staff on transfer student issues and concerns.
  • Consistently stays on top of trends within transfer student academic success and retention.
  • Supports campus-wide programming including Admitted Students Day, Open House(s), and New-Student Orientation.
  • Performs assigned responsibilities, and other related duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, student affairs, or other related field
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience in higher education
    • Experience Background in counseling or academic advising, preferably with transfer students, strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of transfer credit evaluation procedures and articulation agreements strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Colleague, Slate, and Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Teaching experience at the college level preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple, complex projects and to work independently but also part of a team.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.
