Magic Valley Electric Cooperative Transmission Planning Engineer - Nursery, TX / Salary Grade 15
Performs transmission system studies and planning in coordination with ERCOT groups and neighbor TSPs and connected transmission service customers. Directs consultants in providing system studies and coordinates system studies with TSPs, ERCOT, members and load entities.
Working Conditions
General office and sedentary. May frequently be required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to reach, bend, and use 2-step stool while safely lifting and lowering boxes. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
Essential Functions
- Develops, maintains, updates and analyzes load-flow models of the transmission system.
- Performs all manner of modeling system changes and associated load-flow analyses.
- Performs, evaluates and reports sub-synchronous assessments upon request by ERCOT regarding potential generation interconnections.
- Supports testimony at the PUC regarding the need for transmission lines.
- Performs cost benefit analyses of transmission system improvement alternatives.
- Participates in generation interconnection request studies and modeling.
- Attends and participates in ERCOT groups, protocol and guideline development, transmission planning studies and regional planning group processes.
- Develops reports in compliance with FERC, NERC and ERCOT regarding future year transmission system planning.
- Assesses impacts expected of load additions and coordinates gathering of load data from Member cooperatives.
- Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
Experience
5+ years’ experience in utility engineering
License & Certification
