Position Summary
Established in 1951, QCC is a manufacturing services provider specializing in precision machining, assembly, and testing of complete products and mechanical components, with full control of secondary processes such as heat treating and plating. The Truck Driver operates a Class C commercial vehicle equipped with air brakes to transport machined components, assemblies, and finished products between QCC’s facility, secondary process sites such as heat treating and plating, suppliers, and customers. The driver is responsible for safe vehicle operation, accurate paperwork, on-time deliveries, and representing QCC professionally on every stop.
Key responsibilities
- Safely operate a Class C commercial vehicle with air brakes in compliance with federal, state, and local traffic laws and DOT regulations.
- Perform documented pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including air brake system checks (air pressure build-up, leak-down, low-air warning, and spring brake tests).
- Load, secure, and unload cargo using proper securement methods, and verify loads against bills of lading or delivery tickets.
- Plan efficient routes and deliver on schedule to customers, suppliers, and secondary process sites.
- Complete delivery paperwork, inspection reports, and electronic or paper logs accurately and on time.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, damage, and delays to the supervisor immediately.
- Keep the vehicle clean and organized and coordinate routine maintenance with the fleet team.
- Communicate courteously with customers, dispatch, and coworkers, and obtain delivery signatures.
- Follow all QCC safety policies and participate in required safety training.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required qualifications
- Valid Class C Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by Illinois
- Air brake certification, with no air brake restriction on the CDL.
- Current DOT medical examiner’s certificate (medical card).
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and participate in DOT random testing.
- Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) per QCC and insurance standards.
- Working knowledge of pre-trip inspections, air brake systems, and cargo securement.
- Ability to read maps and GPS, follow written and verbal instructions, and complete paperwork accurately.
- High school diploma or GED.
Preferred qualifications
- 2+ years of commercial driving experience, ideally with air-brake-equipped trucks.
- Experience with box trucks, flatbeds, or straight trucks in local or regional delivery.
- Forklift certification or experience with liftgates and pallet jacks.
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and delivery apps.
- Clean safety record with no preventable accidents in the past 3 years.
Physical requirements and work environment
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly, and more with equipment or assistance.
- Sit for extended periods and climb in and out of the cab and cargo area repeatedly.
- Bend, kneel, reach, and stand while loading, securing, and inspecting.
- Meet DOT physical standards for vision, hearing, and overall fitness to drive.
- Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and snow, and in an active manufacturing and shipping environment with machine noise and forklift traffic.
- Wear required personal protective equipment such as safety boots, high-visibility vests, and gloves.
