Truck Service Technician

Purpose

The Truck Service Technician performs a variety of duties related to the upkeep, cleaning, maintenance, and safe operation of company transportation equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Wash tractors and inspect equipment for items that may require repair, including inoperative lights, flat tires, or nails in tires.

  • During winter months, ensure electrical plugs are connected to tractors as required.

  • Shovel snow from walkways and work areas as needed.

  • Assist with loading mailbags when requested.

  • Change tires, perform lubrication services, and complete other maintenance-related tasks not typically performed by First Class Mechanics or Parts Personnel.

  • Help maintain a clean, organized wash bay and shop area.

  • Empty trash containers as needed.

Trailer Washing Duties

  • Wash trailers both inside and outside.

  • Ensure rear doors are lowered during washing so they are properly cleaned and to prevent damage to wash brushes.

  • Use caution when operating interior washing equipment.

  • Perform additional cleaning passes or use a pressure washer when necessary to achieve cleanliness standards.

  • Wash all wheels and visually inspect wheel hubs for oil leaks.

  • If a hub oil leak is identified, complete an out-of-service tag so repairs can be scheduled.

Equipment Operation

  • Learn to safely operate tractors and related equipment.

  • Drive and operate equipment with safety as the number one priority.

  • Participate in weekly evaluations to review performance and progress.

Documentation & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Complete required paperwork in accordance with company guidelines, including wash sheets and work orders for non-washing related tasks.

  • Enter completed work into the TMT system.

  • Perform all job duties with honesty and integrity.

  • Complete other duties assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to reach, lift, pull, and push heavy equipment or objects.

  • Ability to operate work-related equipment, including truck wash systems and power tools.

  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments and priorities.

  • Ability to work safely around power equipment and other potential workplace hazards.

  • Mental alertness and good vision to ensure the safe and accurate completion of work activities.

Working Conditions

  • Combination of temperature-controlled shop environments and outdoor work.

  • Exposure to changing weather conditions and equipment-related work environments.
