The Tutor provides intensive academic support to student-athletes by reviewing specific content information, directly teaching learning strategies, and modeling good information processor skills. Tutors support student-athletes in their pursuit of academic excellence, graduation, and attainment of independent learner status. In short, tutors provide content expertise and serve as a model for student-athletes in the techniques, strategies, and beliefs that successful learners employ as they acquire new knowledge, solve problems and complete academic tasks.

Tutoring Center Hours of Operation: Mondays-Thursdays 8am - 8pm and Fridays 8am - 5pm, closed weekends and holidays

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  1. Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing what will be accomplished during each session. This includes text review and strategy instruction;
  2. Begin all sessions punctually, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the student's needs;
  3. Attend all scheduled sessions. The Tutor Coordinators must be notified 24 hours in advance prior to any canceled sessions;
  4. Attend and participate in discussions and follow-up meetings for tutors as scheduled by the Learning Services Staff;
  5. Communicate student progress by completing tutor summary reports at the end of each session;
  6. Participate as a member of the staff "Learning Community" by working to solve student problems and developing improved tutoring techniques;
  7. Serve as an "expert learner" model for student-athletes;
  8. Teach learning strategies to student-athletes;
  9. Maintain absolute confidentiality with regard to academic progress and/or personal information concerning student-athletes;
  10. Attend and participate in required Learning Services meetings and trainings.
