Summary
Builds the React front end — shell, authentication, and data-integration layer — on top of a Databricks lakehouse, replacing legacy Power BI views for higher-education clients. Hands-on work with TypeScript, Python, React, Node.js, and Entra ID/OAuth federation as a remote 1099 consultant.
We are seeking a UI Developer to develop a front-end application layer connected to a Databricks architecture. Specific areas of responsibility include a React shell, its authentication layer, and the data integration that connects the interface to a Databricks lakehouse. This is a hands-on build role at the center of a fast-moving delivery sprint, which is replacing legacy Power BI views with an application built on React.
CampusWorks consultants engage with our clients in higher education to assist them in fully leveraging their people, processes, policies, and technologies. We work collaboratively with clients' functional and technical teams and our CampusWorks colleagues to evaluate current processes, design future-state optimal processes, and to architect, develop, test, train, and rollout process and technical solutions that delight our clients. As a 1099 project-based consultant, you will enjoy the flexibility of remote work while contributing to the success of leading intstitutions.
Responsibilities:
- Build and own the React shell, data visualization views, and configurable Portals that users will interface with.
- Implement authentication and secure, role-aware access using Databricks AppKit with Entra ID / Azure AD federation.
- Integrate the interface with governed data by querying curated SQL views, semantic models, and catalog data in the Databricks lakehouse.
- Wire the front end to conversational Genie Spaces so users can ask their data questions in plain language.
- Partner with data engineers, functional SMEs, and product management to ship high-quality, standardized experiences across multiple institution deployments.
Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Python, with hands-on experience in modern frameworks built on those languages (e.g., React and Dash).
- State management and data fetching experience using those frameworks and their supporting libraries.
- Server-side scaffolding, structuring, and deployment experience with frameworks such as Node.js and Python
- Familiarity with authentication patterns and secure access (OAuth / identity federation).
- Ability to query catalog data from Lakebase or other structured SQL configurations to power views and interfaces.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with UX or visual design, with an eye for turning complex data into clear, usable interfaces.
- Exposure to Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, or Unity Catalog and lakehouse-based data platforms.
- Experience in higher education, analytics, or data-intensive SaaS delivery environments.
