About The Role

This fixed-term, full-time role offers a competitive salary range of $106,000 to $127,000 per year and is based in Eugene, Oregon, with flexible work location options including remote, hybrid, or on-site arrangements.
The successful candidate will be responsible for defining information architecture, interaction models, and player flows related to core card gameplay, persistence, progression, and metagame systems. The role demands translating complex game rules and data into cohesive and intuitive player experiences, collaborating closely with UI artists and engineers to ensure clarity and consistency in implementation. Experience with free-to-play collectible card games and a deep understanding of their player expectations and interconnected gameplay loops are highly preferred.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of professional experience in UI/UX, product design, or game design.
- Proven contributions to two or more shipped games or comparable production releases, including leading at least one feature or system from concept to delivery.
- Strong interaction design and systems-thinking skills, capable of translating complex rules and data into clear player actions and feedback.
- Proficiency in information architecture, user flows, wireframing, interactive prototyping, and creating annotated production specifications.
- Solid understanding of visual hierarchy, usability, accessibility, readability, and consistency in data-rich interfaces.
- Experience with Figma or comparable UI/UX design and prototyping tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present design rationale and reconcile feedback effectively.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with UI artists, engineers, game designers, and other stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle.
- Experience designing UI/UX for digital collectible card games, deck-builders, or strategy games is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with in-engine UI frameworks, proprietary UI tools, or implementation workflows is a plus.
- Experience using usability studies, playtest findings, or telemetry data to inform design improvements is advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end UX design for data-driven actions and player flows across core card gameplay, persistence, progression, and metagame systems.
- Translate game design goals, rules, and system data into information architecture, user journeys, screen flows, wireframes, prototypes, and implementation-ready documentation.
- Define interaction behaviors, content hierarchy, states, transitions, edge cases, data requirements, and acceptance criteria to minimize ambiguity for art and engineering teams.
- Collaborate with game design, UI art, engineering, production, QA, and external partners to guide features from concept through implementation, validation, and delivery.
- Lead UX reviews, communicate design rationale clearly, reconcile feedback, and maintain a consistent player experience across interconnected features.
- Validate designs through playtests, usability reviews, and player feedback, iterating designs based on findings.
- Establish reusable UX patterns and documentation practices to improve consistency and reduce rework.
- Scope and plan owned work, identify risks and dependencies early, and provide guidance to other designers working on related flows.
Benefits
- Flexible working environment with options for remote, hybrid, or on-site work.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans.
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
- Employer-paid life insurance policy.
- Generous paid time off and 18 paid company holidays annually.
- Relocation assistance.
- Paid parental leave.
